I knew those lights looked familiar! KNK Water Pump < on 1/30/2016 11:36 PM > | Reply with Quote
Out hunting last year and came across this little gem. A large building right off the river that looked closed up for quite some time. This year on the hunt I noticed the gate was open and there was a full lack of "No Trespassing" signs anywhere to be found. Today (1/30/16) I decided to give it a look, of course after some nearby fishing. The lights look familiar. I saw this while I was there, then I put two and tow together after looking over the pictures I took. KNK stamped on a Square-D box. KNK is for the Kankakee Ordnance Works. This was also a "logo" used at the Joliet Arsenal at Midewin. It is in some of the bunkers, see.. http://www.uer.ca/...rrpage=1&pp#post10 This belonged with the Arsenal!!! I talked to a person that worked there later on tonight. This is a pump house to supply water to the Arsenal. The water drove the machines during WW2 for ordinance building. The large pipes went underground and brought kanakee river water straight to the munitions plant.
Hope you enjoyed this! Edited due to new information collected.
