3 miles from my house and sirens woke me up.
http://www.ktvb.co...hes-fire/78200040/
One of my favorite local spots. Never made any attempt to explore this one since its boarded up tight and watched by neighbors and cops. Ive been in it in 2002 when it was still a retirement center. Closed in 2004, listed on NRHP in 2014. Redevelopment plans kept falling through.
Most of the damage is in the original building and looks like the chapel area has been gutted.

Curious, it didn't say whether or not it was arson but considering how wet it has been I wouldn't be surprised. What do you think will happen now?

I'm not stoked about this at all. This was the last big site in the area to explore as the rest have been torn down or renovated.

I've got a decent amount of pictures of the building. Never was able to get into the chapel area, though. I haven't been able to check the place out since they super boarded the place up about 6 or 7 years ago and I'm not one of those b&e type of guys. The basement was the place to be, and I guess that part got super flooded.

Looks like they are going to tear it down and maybe try to save some of the brick facet.

It was definitely "human caused". Could be be accidental from a homeless person, but giving the issues developers and the local entities have had with this property, I can't help but think a suspicious fire is a convenient way to clear some land, especially one on the national register. I really wanted to see something cool done with this place. Very sad but Im not shocked at their decision to demolish.

I guess it comes down this week. Hard to explore though as at least half of it is unsafe at this point. Last chance.

They started last week. For some reason, the original structure is excluded from the demo contract. No reason given why.

Ah hell. I keep meaning to drive by it. Did they save that part of the building?

Yes they did. The original part is still standing. So far, no word on whats going to happen next.
