Entry: Noise discipline
originally posted by Steed

The concealment from the observation of security or others of revealing noises caused by movement.

According to the Army Study Guide, here are four paraphrased tips for practicing noise discipline:

a. Avoid all unnecessary vehicular and foot movement.
b. Secure metal parts (for example, keys, change) to prevent them from making noise during movement.
c. Talk only to conduct or explain operations.
d. Use radios/phones only when necessary, keeping the volume low so only you can hear it. Also, have your phone ringer volume switched off.
