Entry: RUREX
originally posted by catdog23

A portmanteau of Rural Exploration that encompasses a variety of activities, some of which fall under urban exploration but differ in the setting. These may include searching for and exploring ghost towns, mines, historical graveyards, pioneer settlements, old schoolhouses, churches, mines, aircraft/automobile boneyards, and most frequently abandoned farmhouses.

Many who practice rurex fall outside the traditional UE community and often pursue the hobby for more historical reasons, especially those who find old settlements, graveyards and ghost towns. This may be because there is often less risk associated with it.

Rurex can also be dangerous, especially in older habitations with waterlogged foundations and rotten floors.

This type of exploration is normally quite photogenic, both because of natural decay, but also because locations tend to be more or less untouched by human hands (not boarded up, less signs, undemolished)
