I’m not sure if anybody will recognise this but these photos were taken inside an abandoned resort. It’s famous for having been visited by numerous movie stars (Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Elvis).

These photos were taken last year, a few months before a fire went through the place and destroyed portions of it.

I know exactly where that is. I believe Blue Lagoon, a Elvis Presley film was filmed there as well. I believe that the doors to the main building have been removed and are being restored at another hotel locally.

Yep that's the place! When were you there last? There's a whole group/society trying to restore the resort.

Very sad to see it in that state. Would have been amazing to see it while it was still open.

Been there. "Coconut Trees" Resort.

Just celebrated the birth of my third girl, an exploration all in its self.

These pictures bring back a lot of memories. I was on the Island for almost 3 months after hurricane Iniki, and spent a lot of time at the "Property" as a damage inspector. It looks a lot worse than it did 23 years ago.

I saw it last 6-7 years ago, I doubt it gets rebuilt, but with enough money....

The names posted are close, It was the Coco Palms Resort. In the day, it was a happening spot. It was very nice! It had several restaurants and had it's own show. It even had a private zoo. One of the sinks in our room was a real giant clam shell. One of the best points was the torch lighting ceremony, where a native son ran along all the paths, swinging a torch in circular arcs over his head, lighting all of the pots along the pathways at ground level.

I was married in Kauai at the Westin Kauai, now the Marriott, and spent a lot of time on the Garden Isle. After Iniki, all of Kauai suffered.

PS - This got me wondering and I found this: http://khon2.com/2...o...-palms-resort/

So who knows?

Is it a coincidence that all the posters in this thread have usernames that start with a "D"?

Doug, that sounds really cool! (The link is broken though?)

Such a beautiful place! I'm surprised so many of the windows are still intact. It seems like those are usually the first things to go.

Despite how old the place is it's relatively clean (graffiti-wise) and as you mentioned not as much broken glass as you'd expect.

I drove back and forth by there all week last week. But, I was on vacation with the wife and our 4 year old son... so no explore-ey. It looked like an awesome explore, though. Any idea what the round building across the street from the NE end is? That looked abandoned too.

I did 'explore' the old Russian fort nearby for a few minutes.
