The Angry Babushka

About 2 weeks ago I met up with Bonnie&Clyde to go explorin' we found some really cool stuff but had a huge "oh shit" moment. We met up in beautiful Marin County one weekend and I had shown them an abandoned neighborhood I found and on our way back to the busier area, we pulled over to check out this lot I spotted with what looked like abandoned cars.

Pulling over and getting out, we found a hole in the fence and climbed through bushes of thorns to find a bunch of old cars worth a lot and stuff still inside of them. All the stickers on the license plates were from the 80s and earlier, some were either locked or rusted shut and others we were able to open and peer in. One car even had old books, letters, trophies, and clothes like someone had just left and come back but everything was covered in dust and dead bugs.

We were about to head out when my friend, Gabrielle, pointed out a wooden bridge hanging over a creek that attached to the yard we were in. We went to check it out and discovered that there was this old house. Clyde and Gabrielle crossed the bridge to check it out first and found the water was running and turned back, but Bonnie and I felt like we should double check since 1. the bridge was completely falling apart and seemed as though it was the only way to and from the house and 2. It looked severely beet up and rotting away that there could be a good chance it was abandoned.

While Clyde and Gabrielle waited on the other side of the creek, Bonnie and I went over to the house and tried the door we presumed was the back door. Locked. We smelt like something was rotting and moved around the house and found sliding glass doors. The handle was broken and all the windows were covered with curtains that were moldy, wet, and had dead bugs all over them. We tried the door to find it locked and circled around again to the front where there were windows to see if we could have any luck there.

Bonnie looked up trying to see if she could spot anything and laughed, mentioning how a passing car made it look like there was a reflection in the window. She froze and told me to run, there was someone in there: a really angry old lady. We ran as fast as we could around the house and to the bridge. Bonnie crossed before me and I was trying to stick to the side and be safe but Bonnie rushed me and my leg went through the wood. I made it to the other side with only a few scratches and we hopped in our cars and got out of there so quickly we would have made Usain Bolt proud.

In the end the cars were really cool and we have a good laugh about the house, but no one else saw the old lady so we don't know if Bonnie was just trippin' or if we really did disturb some old lady's house. Or maybe a ghost. It was just a super weird situation and also a great premise for a conversation starter when making new friends.

That sounds like a fun time! Too bad about the old lady though. I had a similar experience once. I was exploring what I thought was an abandoned retirement complex. The main office was vacant and most of the units were boarded up and looked like they hadn't been occupied for many years.

When I got to the last unit, I saw movement inside and an old man in a motorized wheelchair came out and yelled at me. Scared the hell out of me, especially because his voice was damaged and he sounded awful. I apologized profusely and told him I thought the place was abandoned. He said he was the only one still living there. I felt so bad for disturbing him, and that he was living in such depressing conditions.

That's crazy! How is he the only one living there? That's so hard to imagine, especially someone in a wheel chair. I wonder if it's abandoned now? Like, who owns that building?

I don't know how he ended up being the only one there. I felt really bad for him. It looked like no one even takes care of the grounds anymore, and all the buildings around it were abandoned too. The poor old guy looked like he was near the end of his life.

It's crazy that he doesn't have family to help, I would have reported that to the police or social work in case he needed the help. That's so sad

Omg that day was so funny! These jaded and seasoned explorers all called time out for a milkshake break after that traumatic event and THE LADY DID EXIST! Flashy, when you doubled back you ran RIGHT UNDER the window she opened!
All in all tho we had a blast with you and Gabrielle! That slow-mo bridge run though!
Great pics!

The question is not when are we gonna stop, It's who's gonna stop us?

No one else saw her Bonnie, so far all you know you could be crazy That was so traumatic, I wish I had gotten 2 milkshakes. BUT STILL FUNNY TO TELL THE STORY! Same on our side! I hope to go exploring with you guys again, and go back to that house on the beach when it's warmer. I'll still never let you down for commenting on the way my boobs bounced as I tried to run across the bridge when my foot went through it.

Just say you're the Grim Reaper & it's time for them to come with you and not to give you a lot of hassle because it took you a long time to track 'em down.
