So earlier today I went to two different places and I have to say I agree with a lot of you. I brought 4 other friends and it started to feel a little crowded. One of them had to leave, but even with 3 other people it was still a little stressful. Fun, but I had to worry about them and they started to think someone was watching and wanted to leave.

If it is a location that i've been previously and am quite familiar with, i will go at it alone. Otherwise, i usually always have at least one companion with me.
I've also "explored" with 50+ people before, but that's a whole 'nother story.

I never go alone. Max people I tend to go with is three, myself included. Easier in and easier out that way.

When I first started, I usually went out by myself. It's easier if you only have one person to worry about. It's also easier than dragging your friends inside an abandoned building that is too 'sketch' for them.

Lately though, I've been exploring with a great buddy I have found. It's reassuring for me to have a trustable friend with me when exploring a new place for the first time or exploring a place with a higher risk of getting hurt.

I have found 1-2 people is most ideal. My favorite part of it is the creepiness that cam sometimes be prevalent, and it slowly decreases as more people come along. Gotta get your heart pumpin ;)

I would like to ask about that 50+ people story unless you'd rather not share.

Certain meet-ups in the Midwest attract lots of explorers from around the country, and sometimes even from around the world. Usually the type of "explores" that consist of 50+ people are actually giant underground parties, but since we're still all there to check out the mine/drain/whatever, as well, i would still consider it an explore. Those are some ridiculous good times.

As far as abandonments go, we've had groups of 20 or 30 do army depots, Government Spiders and other larger locations. Places like Detroit or Gary, we easily travel and explore in groups of a dozen or two without issue.

More the merrier, in my opinion. It does suck for photography aspects, as people are always walking into one-another's shots. However, to be able to walk around an abandoned building/underground and stumble into familiar faces constantly and shoot the shit for a while and have a brew, that makes the experience all the more enjoyable, in my opinion.

It depends on my mood. I like the adrenalin rush of being alone. You have to be extra careful- a pitch black room in the basement of a factory is 10X scarier if your alone. Ish be much more fun.

On the other hand, places that may have lots of interesting thing are always fun to share with others and good rooftops are no fun unless your sharing it with others.

Most of the active buildings I explore are so changeable, that I never can count on finding something cool, so I don't often invite my friends to e.g. come climb a bunch of stairwells on the very slim chance of getting on a rooftop.

I will do houses alone. Once did an abandoned rec center alone, but never again. If I have to go with someone, it's just one person. More than that, you are more likely to attract attention.

I am pretty much forced to go alone. All of my friends are scared of the thought of getting caught. I would love to be able to go along with a couple people though. I think it would be a ton more fun if there was someone else there to communicate with.

I did my first explore alone a few days ago, where it was more than an old barn, actually a house to go in. It was exciting but honestly the nerves may have distracted from the actual event. It was the pet crematorium I posted about, and as I said in that thread, at one point I thought I heard footsteps upstairs and I was literally walking with my maglite in baton position.

I'll just put my two cents here. Like others have said, it depends on the location, but also how well i know it. I prefer to go alone when going ANYWHERE for the first time. Particularly in daytime. That way I know the area fairly well for when i go back with others. On an infiltration, I find it to just usually be FUNNER with more people because it's that much more challenging. You just have to make sure you trust all the people in the group, and that they all know the consequences. Not only that but I feel like a group of people can be beneficial, should the event happen that you are actually caught. Being alone, all that pressure is on you, and you probably look about as criminal as criminal gets. With a group however, especially with a bit of light spirit, it could smooth things over a lot.

I prefer to go in groups. Not big groups, four people max. To me, a group of three is ideal. I've gone alone before and I didn't mind it, but I like going in groups just for the sense of security in case something unexpected happens and I also find it nice to talk to people while exploring and just talk about the venue that we're in. I also like getting feedback on site about pictures being taken. Another nice thing about going with others is that you can use them as subjects in your photos as well.

Anyway, that's just my view on it all

Always with friends. If the spot is big enough, I usually wander off on my own. We use a short series of whistles to locate each other to join back up.

For me it's not as much the number of people I go with, but the quality of their character. If I know I can trust everyone I'm with, and I know that they're going to be smart, then I say the more the merrier!

In addition to the quality of their character, I also only bring along companions with a suitable level of fitness for the expected entry and escape conditions.

I prefer to go with at least one other person. Like you guys have said it puts me more at ease knowing I have someone there whos got my back and vice versa, also with the whole injury thing its good to have someone else there.

I have 2 friends who enjoy coming along with my little excursions, while I am the one with the true passion for abandonments they still enjoy to tag along. I try to go with them when I can.
