Second trip here, aiming for some nicer photos than I got last time of the interior (I didn't have the proper camera then, and was shooting with my, uh, phone).

iliamo1986 told me where this place is, for which I'm extremely grateful because it's been a great place to visit and photograph.

I love the overgrowth of this place in summer.

There are a few more in the set on Flickr, mostly of things outside around the house, and some caterpillars (really excited about bugs okay). But before I leave you here, can anyone tell me what the hell this is/was? Cause I've got nothing. It's in the back yard, stuck in the center of a square pad of concrete maybe... 12'x12'? I'm not an awfully good judge of size, but it wasn't huge.

The last picture looks like it's part of a clothesline pole.

Just a guess, though.

I love these!!! I need to visit again soon...last time I was out there was in June.

And I wonder if the contraption in the last pic is from an above-ground pool. I don't know what the cables would have been for, but the ladder and the concrete pad make me think there was a pool there at one time.

Possibly? It's awfully tall though. That platform bit is about chest height to me. I'm no all star basketball player, but that sends excessive for laundry, and there's no evidence of a second one anywhere.

Thanks <3! And maybe?! I keep thinking pool looking at that tiny ladder/seat thing... but if so, I can't imagine that the cement that's there would have been the base of it because A: it doesn't look really like it's big enough?? And B: this thing is in the direct middle of it. If that were a way into/out of a standing pool, wouldn't it be on one side? It's so MYSTERIOUS.

My partner said it might have been something to assist in butchering deer. We do know the guy who lived there hunted? I don't know if that makes any more sense to my imagination. Or if people erect large eventually-rusty things in their yards in order to hang and clean their kills. It sounds convenient, but I've never hunted, so I have no earthly idea what I'm talking about really.

Is there any way you could post another picture of it from a different angle, possibly showing the entire thing?

That ladder-platform thing makes me think it was used for some kind of aquatic activity, a la swimming pool. Notice how below the "deck" there's less rust than above it.

I'll check the files. Who knows what I shot. At the time I don't think I was gunning for identification, just going through to post them I had this moment of 'yep, I still don't know what the fuck that thing is'. The steps/platform still look firmly POOL SEAT...THINGY... to me as well (and that's a good point about the rust) but it's still in such a weird configuration. Like... where it's attached to the pole, it's right in the middle of the back of the 'seat', so if you were climbing in/out of an above-ground pool it would be colossally in your way. Maybe it just grew out of the yard. Who knows what happens when stuff is just left to its own devices. Someone dropped some bolts in the yard one day and then bang. Years later, inexplicable thing.

So did you manage to find/get another shot of this contraption?

Not really. :/ That's the most complete. There's this: https://flic.kr/p/qzZdZp and this: https://flic.kr/p/qiAkxy by way of somewhat closer up photos. The other detritus did not look related. Part of that is a standing basketball hoop that looks like it was dragged back there. I'll be down there again, when the weather gets nicer if not before. Maybe then.

What amazing photos! Love the look of the house, and the retro-style room, and the dish outside with the plants on it, just awesome!
