Haha I love me some San Andreas. Its even better when you go into the cop shop, grab the one out of the locker room and try and fight your way back out of their using only the purple dildo. Just sayen

For me, unless its pretty sketchy i don't take weapons. Just my nikon lol. I feel like if you were to be intercepted by law enforcement they wouldn't be too happy about it. (I mean, if you have a concealed weapons permit then go for it)
But abandoned places are always full of random debris that could be used to defend yourself if the situation requires

From my understanding, there are a few towns where the ground is full of asbestos, and there are trees that randomly explode. So yeah, literally everything will kill you there.

I play it by ear. Sometimes my 9 is in the concealed holster, sometimes it is off the belt, sometimes it is in the bag, and sometimes it is at home.
Mostly depends on the area, whether I am alone, and who's property it is.

I usually have a +10 lightning zweihander, coupled with my Mask of the Father it allows me to carry such heavy things with ease, freeing me up to dodge and roll out of my enemies reach

nah I heard cops are cool with armed dudes in unauthorized places, its totally understandable and they will know you're just protecting yourself from the grafiti gangs. It's a well known fact that all grafiti sprayers are in gangs and deal drugs, so you have to be ready to defend yourself when you see spray paint on the wall.

It's really hard to see in dark abandoned places.
Best to shoot first and ask questions later.

I always carry a BK7 knife on me everywhere, and as soon as I turn 21 I'm going to be inheriting my grandfathers carry holster and a CCW licence, so I'll pretty much always have a gun on me. Its kind of a no-no for most, but we have meth and pill problems in my area. and I dont really need to get horribly close to a building to scout.

Well, I suppose even the herbivores must be pretty extreme to survive down under.

I sometimes carry a gun, but usually it is just when I am just doing a lot of walking around in bad areas with my camera out. Came in handy once or twice, but I never needed to draw it.

Full size tripods are excellent for defense.

I always carry a knife on me, generally as a tool like others have said. But if there is a situation when you run into the wrong person, it's nice to have SOMETHING.

I just went camping in an abandonment last night that is being attacked by an onslaught of scrappers. They have only recently started scrapping the place and I have been trying to defend it as it's a super rad hang out spot 2 blocks from where i work. It has working electricity and AC in the penthouse where i slept last night, so i'm dead set on preserving that. During the night i woke several times to unknown sounds. Even though i had locked all the doors I wished i had at least something to defend myself should the imminent horde breach my defenses.

The OP's spiked club is not far from what i plan on equipping myself with from now on.

I haven't on trips in the past but after reading some of the replies here, I may start bringing a small knife with me, if only to use as a tool when I may need it.

Usually carry an xacto knife that has breakable blades. Say I'm grabbed - the plan is to extend, stab somewhere fleshy, break off the blade and book it.
