About the margins of a defunct container shipping yard lie relics of the harbor's past. One of them is a pair of circular concrete enclosures--apparently the foundations of water tanks. One is now used to hold what we might charitably call "fill," an evil-smelling black sludge. The other is overgrown. A pair of corrugated steel sheds sits next to them, shrouded in blackberry vines. They're full of pipes, valves, pumps and other equipment.

West shed


This site is not a big deal. But I like pipes, so I came back with TunnelRunner33 and a better camera. He found handwritten labels on pipes referring to various hydrants, tanks, etc. So it was a water system.

We could hardly get in the door of the east shed, due to blackberries and a mound of sludge that's slowly ingesting it.
