One thing led to another

So today, my friends and I found an old run down rail road. We were walking along it for a bit, and then we were lucky enough to find a storm drain. Just thought I should share it on here

The beginning of our journey.

Then we reached the storm drain:

Eventually, we found an exit about 10 minutes down.

Does anyone else have any experiences where you started out exploring one place, but you ended up finding something else even better? If so, please explain. Also, any advice for me would be appreciated (In terms of exploring and photography-I'm still a rookie in both)Hope you like the pictures!

Yup. We went rooftoping with nonconmat a few months ago, and we unexpectedly ended up inside a nice theater, among other things. I still regret not taking my camera at that place, so I'm gonna have to use his shots.

Wow! That looks amazing. Great shots on your friends part. That sucks that you forgot to bring a camera. I usually don't bring mine everywhere either though.

One time Uemez and I went to check out what we thought was just an abandoned woodshop and woodworking factory

It was pretty cool and was fairly interesting

It got a whole lot more interesting when we decided to duck through some plastic sheeting inside the storefront facing the street. At first it just looked like a dry cleaning store front (with some terrible spelling)

We kept going and stumbled upon what ranks as one of the grossest, and coolest, locations we never expected to find. All I can say is that it is awesome that we had respirators.

I have never seen so many colors of mold in my life

And then suddenly it dawned on us why this large and empty strip mall was abandoned in a pretty busy and developed part of town around the corner from where I used to live. (also, that we probably shouldn't be in there either, but hey, like that ever stops anyone! hahah)

Moral of the story: you never know what could be hiding in plain sight. Oh, and always bring a respirator ;)

Exploring with this kind of light would be so badass, but it was already standing there when we arrived.

What's up with that floor/ceiling? Are they in the process of repairing it?

Beautiful shots btw

They closed down the place to make seismic upgrades, so they had scaffoldings all around the place, not just in the main theater room.

A few weeks ago I went for a walk around my apartment building just to see the city with my girlfriend and buddy. We went to this place which is public, a giant hole in a cliff within a crumbling foundation of a building.

1.

Then as we were walking around the area I just happened to see a building that was vacant. I tried the side door and it was unlocked. So in we went!

2.

3.

4.

4 floors of a triangle shaped building on a cliff. Pretty sweet but I didn't have my camera, so only junky cell phone pics ensued. The basement was nasty. But was really cool overall. Wish I could go back but it's closed up tight now.

The first picture is freaking awesome! How deep was the hole?

It was probably upwards of 150 ft? Then I was standing on the 3rd story above it, so it's pretty deep and has water running through it and the building. It's really fascinating.

Is there a river near by, or was the water from old pipes or something like that?

The Genesee River is right along side of the building. They built a raceway through the building's foundation and used that hole to generate electricity off of the falling water. The building is 6 or 7 stories tall. Only half of it remains today.

That theater picture is just unreal. So freaking awesome. I've never gone rooftopping, but it looks like it was well worth it for you guys.
