Abandoned Schools Near Dayton?

Hey all, I'm finally getting back into the swing of exploring.

I've explored a lot of places here in my hometown of Dayton, Ohio; mostly abandoned industrial buildings and abandoned houses. I've always wanted to explore an abandoned school building, but every forum and site I've searched on for ones in my area has given me dead (or rather, demolished) ends. If anybody is in the area and knows of any, I'd be much obliged for the information, and of course it would always be nice to meet up with some fellow explorers.

Call my Dayton, Ohio friends at (937)-333-2677. They're always glad to help others find places to trespass. Cheers.

It's pretty much as you say: everything is getting torn down. The schools I know of are gone.

There's bound to be more pop up though. It is Dayton after all.

What exactly is the point of you being a member of a Urbanexploring community if you're going to be a douche to people interested in the hobby?

If you haven't noticed, typically people are douches to those who ask for handouts.

No I've noticed people on here are douches to anyone who Isn't instantly an expert on the hobby. He asked if anyone wanted to meet up if someone wants to share some ideas with him. He didn't ask for hand outs.

At least that's not how I took it, seems to be like it could be a prospective new guy who's interested in it. Not everyone was born an expert

If this isn't asking for a handout, then i must be completely illiterate.

and of course it would always be nice to meet up with some fellow explorers.

This does save it a bit, but it doesn't retract the fact of the previous bit.

Or maybe i'm just a douche. That's probable.

Really? I don't know what you read, but I read a guy straight up asking where schools are at.

False. I'm new here. I wasn't an expert when I joined. No one was a douche to me. In fact, they were quite nice to me. I can be a real dumbass sometimes (i.e. there's a post or 2 that I wish I could have back) and, still no one was ever a douche to me).

I think that's because I followed the suggestions. The first one being to read the FAQs and browse through some threads to see how things work before I start contributing. So I did that.

Anyone who spends a little time in the UER will become an expert themselves in no time. Now I had a little bit of a headstart in that I have been jumping into buildings since I was a little kid. But that was just "doin' stuff". We had no idea that it was a "thing". We had no strategy, game plan, or logic of any sort in our behaviors. But, at the least, I had had some experience with some of the actions involved, but I was no expert, of course. But anyone who's spent even just a week diving into the wealth of tips, advice, and VAST knowledge of the public UER can, in no time, become their own expert. What I'm getting at is that you don't have to be an expert, the UER can make you one (I, however, still suck at UER-ing).

To say they douched at him for not being an expert is inaccurate. I think it was likely because he hasn't learned anything in his time, doesn't seem to have taken the suggestions, and is just blatantly (in public) asking where the schools are at. He did it in a polite manner. I'll give him that.

People say that you have to kiss peoples' ass to get in on the UER, they are all arrogant location hogs, and other stupid shit. SCENARIO: If I were looking for some copper scraps, or I wanted to spray paint a church, or I liked using needles in old schools, or whatever - Would I come to the internet, get to know strangers, and tell them about my own illegal actions? Of course not, I'd just openly ask for spots and hope someone bites. That's not to say that OP is any of those things. But how in the world can the UER community distinguish him from any of those unsavory characters? They can't - FACT... Unless, of course, they get to know a little about him FIRST. Therefore, it's not about ass-kissing. It's about letting people get to know you a little bit before they tell you where they have broken laws. Is that so unreasonable to ask for? I think not.

And, what better way to show them that you're the real deal than to let them see what you have found? "Oh but I'm new. I can't find anything". BS. As I said, use the knowledge of the UER and you WILL find stuff. That's what I did. It started with a shitty old burnt up barn and some graffiti on cement. It showed that I was trying, at the least, and I received nice comments. My locations got better as I continued to learn from this place and I continued to share them (oh another of the core suggestions).

Nowadays, I've been "handed" some absolutely fantastic locations without even asking for them. I'm so grateful for that.

In closing, It's not about these guys being dicks, douches, better than you, or anything like that. They just wanna know, with confidence, that you are like them and that you can be trusted. Wouldn't you want the same??

I was a bit frustrated at first by the big urbex rule: Do not share locations with people. However, once you realize the reasons as the above posters have stated, it makes sense.

I suggest this thread for ALL NEW MEMBERS:

http://www.uer.ca/...d=1&threadid=83183

With enough detective work and asking the right people (people you know are not a threat) you can find some great spots.

I have a GREAT school in my area that I have photos of in this section. One member knows the location cause they've been entrusted. lol.

I dunno maybe I'm just in too good of a mood. My only point was that it just came off as someone asking for advice and there's better ways to handle it then with a sarcastic answer telling him to call the cops.

I mean perhaps you guys answer the question too many times and are tired of answering it so instead the kid gets the sarcastic answer.

To me I'd consider a hand out if he demanded it or felt entitled to it, or made a habbit of it. But if he's just new coming by asking for advice kindly I don't consider that a handout.

Anyways continue on, I get what you guys are saying. Just the guy who posted in response to him telling him to call the cops came off as a jerk.

I know I'm a little late to the party, but try:

http://www.oldohioschools.com/

I used this site a lot when I was first getting into Urban Exploration. Basically, it gives you a list of all the counties in Ohio and you can view active, abandoned, and even demolished schools. I can honestly say it has led me to some of my favorite locations. Hope you find what you're looking for!
