Yes and no. Authorities still need a reason to request access to a non public forum. Private messages on Facebook are definitely not public.

My big issue with this, basing just on the article. Sure he trespasses, but they're locations no longer deemed in use. If he's not causing trouble and is just taking photos, what the heck is the big deal!?

I would say as a property owner the deal becomes big when the photos of your building are posted online, letting other people know your property is not secure, and thus leading more people to your property, likely resulting in damage or theft, and increasing you risk of being held liable in somebodies injury.
