They're technically not silos, but magazines. The missiles were lifted up and only fired after being fueled above ground and the magazine doors shut.

i am looking at the differences of how they were scrapped- i have tons of pics of other sites, and i have a video of the Hecker Ill. site that just sold, of the doors and Elevator still in working condition- hoped someone could have shown the inside of this one, looks like they scrapped the elevator from the one pic they showed

My son and I showed up a week early for the Angel Island meet up, but it turned out great since the actual meet up was trailed pretty closely by five-oh.

5alive- AWESOME shots, its sure a shame they left the elevator up while pit was flooded, ruined the rams- i would LOVE to have a Nike site to park all my cars in, i think 3 magazines would hold em all.. LOL (last count 24 projects)

looks VERY functional- probably cut the welds on the doors and power it up- i see the Hyd. pumps are complete, as are the panels(from what i can see) i read somewhere they are/were considering destroying them though- what a shame

When I was a kid I saw a story on 20/20 or some other news magazine show about a couple who bought a decommissioned missile silo and turned it into a home. Ever since then I've always dreamed of doing the same.
