Outreach to new explorers in the Bay Area

There's a new breed of explorers popping up all over the country as rooftopping, urban exploration, bridge climbing etc is gaining more media attention and popular interest. They are out there doing this and not necessarily aware that they are affecting others when they blast out photos and blow up locations on instagram, facebook etc.

I was thinking it might serve the community well to host an all explorers meetup and try and get some of these folks on board with our way of thinking and general ethics, so our hobby is potentially less impacted as more and more newbies get involved.

I'll be reaching out to groups of people I'm already in touch with via flickr/instagram etc and planning something in the Nov-Dec timeframe. Any UER people are welcome to come, but I'm not sure I'll make it a UER event.

Any thoughts? Anyone else interested?

Excellent idea freeside. Thanks for presenting a solution to a very relevant problem.

Although I won't be able to make it out to Northern California again this year, I definitely support this meet up. And I'll be watching eagerly, as to hopefully apply some of your wisdom to the exploring scene around LA.

I know my roommate and I would love to be involved in any way we can. Feel free to message me at all if you have more information, we'll be in Sonoma county until mid December, but I do think you should make an event and encourage others to join. It would make planning on who, when, and where much easier for everyone. I'm with Austtie, this is a good idea.

Ah cool, great response. Sounds like the normal crew is assembling. Link in instagram kiddies that we should invite if you know any, or other non-UER folks.

Don't worry LostAmerica, I too am tied up on full moon weekends.

Here's some I've already reached out to who are interested:

could have sworn that last flickr link is already a UER member. We've been following each other on flickr for a long time already.

I'd really like to come to this. I'm moving from the UK to the Bay area in December-ish (dependant on visa) so won't know any explorers in the whole country. Would be nice to meet some of you folks.

Everyone:
The best thing you can do to help make this work, is take the time to reach out to instagram explorers, non-UER explorers and others that none of us have met.
Send them an email or PM.

Here's the message I've sent to people:

I'm setting up Bay Area wide meet to bring together new explorers and old explorers who are already connected, in order to swap stories, discuss legal issues, tactics, risks, posting of photos, the graf community etc.
We're out there doin' it, you're out there doin' it, let's work together and make sure we don't fuck stuff up for each other. Learn some stuff from the guys who've been trespassing for a long ass time. Fresh blood, high energy newcomers can maybe give us old dudes some fresh motivation.

Timeframe:
Sometime in November/December. TBD.

Location: public location in SF or Oakland

Who's invited:
rooftoppers, abandoned building folks, infiltration nuts, and all other serial trespassers. Bring your friends, your crew, and reach out to other urban explorers, flickr contacts etc.

Stay tuned for more information.

I'm always interested in meetups.

I've been exchanging messages off and on with that 3rd Flickr guy for a couple of years. Also following him on Tumblr and Instagram. Never met him. I've been following the 2nd guy for a long time two. (They might be know each other I think).

I'll take a look and see which other people I'm following are currently active and might fit the bill.

If I'm free I'd be up for it. Been buried under work lately, so not a lot of time for exploring. Would be fun to catch up with a few people, and maybe meet some new faces.

edit:
good lord, I've been on this website for 10 years...
