Why would you listen to music DURING an exploration?

Industrial strength music for industrial explorations:

Combichrist blows. Listen to Faderhead instead.

Personally, I like listening to music that matches the time era of the place that I'm exploring. I love to urbex because I'm so fascinated about the fact that I am going into a place that used to flourish(maybe) and many people could have frequented at said location.

We can both agree on that ^^
Your ears should be on alert for anything suspicious during explorations.

As for Faderhead... oh gawd. He does have some good club hits such as TZDV and The Way To Fuck God, but I lost some form of respect for him when he came out with Drrty Bois/Dirrty Girls (or however the hell he spells it).

Heh, that comment was half-serious. While I do like some of Faderhead's music, I acknowledge that his stuff is probably at least as schlocky as Combichrist and that he's a bit of a dick (search for "How to hang with Faderhead"), but take a look at Ad·ver·sary's 'We Demand Better' video from Kinetik 5.0 to understand the main reason why I will always choose his music over that Combichrist.

*weeps with laughter*

...not that I don't listen to both of these bands. Not that they're not both completely ridiculous, and I, with them, the ridiculous somewhat older goth who maybe should have grown out of that scene (I regret nothing)/

ANYWAY. Basically my car doesn't go if there isn't music playing and my tastes range a pretty broad gamut. But the most successful music we have so far discovered in assisting to FIND things to explore is Juno Reactor (much science). Lately iVardensphere has been very helpful as well.

eta: I should clarify here that none of the above weeping with laughter is in a malicious way. I love industrial music, hope to be involved in making it in a variety of capacities, and listen to it all the goddamn time. However, there is a degree of fundamental silliness in it that I acknowledge and embrace, and Combichrist and Faderhead in particular are both very high on my silliness list because songs like Tractor and Noisebastardz exist.

Sometimes I like to play some drone quietly during an exploration. Feels like it really adds to the mood of a place, especially the spooky ones.

I normally take a person along, I should take headphones though when I explore alone, seems fun. Although I feel like I'd be listening to headphones and it would drown out a noise I wish I would have heard, such as crackheads in the room nextdoor.

Lately iVardensphere has been very helpful as well.

Scott Fox from iVardensphere is a pretty cool guy. I got a chance to hang out with him and Matt Fanale of Caustic during the Aftermath Festival in Toronto back in May.

I have never brought music while exploring yet, but I once came a cross a guy in the Paris catacombs carrying a MASSIVE sound system with him. It was so big that I mistook it for a circuit-powered sound system across the wall before seeing it. I really need to find out what kind of sound system it was and how much is costs.

Catacombs and similar limestone tunnels are definitely great for music, because the walls absorb a lot of the sound, you can get as loud as you want.

As for music suggestions, some Techno or Drum and Bass will be perfect for me inside any tunnel.
