I work at one of the coastal parks in OC now and I heard rumors of this bunker hidden in the hills. After a bit of research I found it did exist and set out to locate it. Didn't take long.

Sorry some photos are crappy, only had my iPhone with me. They usually turn out great but this was an exception: low light.

Cool building, a part of OC I didn't know about.

A few pictures here, the rest of the report here: http://dvexplore.b...n-wwii-bunker.html

Some people walked on top when I was in there. this is looking out the portal on top that is closed but lets in light. They had no idea what they were standing on.

I like this guy:

Great find. Orange County is usually determined to keep itself sterile, clean, and boring, so places like this are hard to come by.

I swear OC is just riddled with with military findings. From bunkers and left over military gadgets lying here and there...I'm amazed that OC didn't do a better job getting rid of things with how, like Surlysilverback said, is sterile and just wants everything to be new. Great job!

Those are actually forward control stations, for a second I thought it was one of the one in Rancho Palos Verdes. There are several in the hill sides there as well as other areas all up and down the coast.

The purpose of these was to be used to triangulate the positions of enemy ships off the coast and radio the information to the batteries so that they could fire accurately.

Typically in these you will find a radio operators station, and even the remains of the stand that the scope sat on that they would look out through in order to determine direction and distance of an enemy ship. Once they radioed that information in, along with other stations information, it was then put together to give the exact ships location ;)

Just some history to go with the find =)

There were two scope stands inside, couldn't really get a decent picture of them though. Part of the inside looked burned out.

That's a way cool find. So those people walked on top of it while you were in it and they didn't even know it was there? Haha that's awesome.
