A special thanks to Bonnie&Clyde for geeking out with me about all the places in Lake Elsinore! I really hope we can explore together soon, I would never have known to look here without you.

---

Up winding, country roads and over ever continuous hills sits a mansion that sadly over looks the 15 freeway and all of Lake Elsinore. What once was a proud home sits in ruins, overlooking a city that continues to grow while the home sits still in time, waiting for the unknown to occur.

The house was believed to once be owned by Olympic gold medal-winning swimmer Johnny Weissmuller when, in the 1930s/1940s, Lake Elsinore was a haven for celebrities. Despite his place on the Olympics, Weissmuller came to even greater fame acting in the main the role of Edgar Rice Burrough's version of the Tarzan movies throughout the 30s and 40s. Though, some say that maybe the house wasn't even owned by Weissmuller and that the property has no historical significance.

Although the history of the home is a mystery, the city has argued on what to do with the property. The mansion had been saved many times from being demolished, and many argue that it can be saved while others believe that the property is far too destroyed to be fixed.

Squatters, teenagers, and explorers are drawn to the site, many leaving behind their own pieces of history in the now gutted home. What remains inside are two chimneys, what was once a beautiful bathroom, a helicopter pad, and a separate bathhouse with a pool now filled with dirt. The diving board is still up to this day, and even though the future remains of the mansion on the hill stuck in time, it will continue to look over the beautiful, ever growing population of Lake Elsinore as it continues to progress.

Right?? Hahaha! Epic chess match in an abandoned building. Thanks! It was worth the trip. It wasn't even an hour in a half drive, it was more like 40 minutes. After a huge argument on wanting to get Chick-Fil-A for lunch and getting lost, we had a cruddy one but our moods became instantly happy once we saw the house and all the other places we couldn't get to explore today.

I'll tell her! I'm not sure if she'd get an account or how often she'd use it since she only goes UEing with me, but I know she'd love that username.

Right?? We need more of those. I love geeking out with you over this stuff, it's amazing what you can find when you collaborate two enthusiasms! And all the best ideas come from late night messages.

Thank you so very much! ^-^ It means a lot. <3

The place was huge. It probably was really beautiful in its prime.

Nice photos. Great colour, contrast, and composition.

Lake Elsinore is basically in my backyard. Let me know next time you're coming out, and we can hit a couple of other locations there. I want to hit the abandoned military boarding school there, and it would be interesting to pull with a crew.

Thanks!

Oh, wow! We should definitely go exploring some time. I'm hoping to be back at Lake Elsinore in a few weeks when my best friend comes to visit from NorCal. We'd be back sometime between June 29th-July 3rd if you're free then.

I do, too. We tried to but the road next to it was too busy and the side street had neighbors that would come out and stare at you until you left. But nearby is an abandoned restaurant I think with easy access.

I'll PM you soon so we can figure something out. It's always great to make new friends to explore with, thanks for the invite.

I'll be sure to tell my sister you said that about her. That'll make her day.

Thank you very much!

The view is gorgeous. Everything about the hike is worth it.
