Dead Mall in the Mojave Desert

I stumbled across this dead mall completely unexpectedly, after a long day of checking out ghost towns and abandoned water parks. The mall still had 4 or 5 operational stores, but 95% of it was completely abandoned, untouched and untagged (thankfully).

The eeriest thing about the whole site is that, because the mall is still technically functioning, the elevator music and announcements are still piping into the speaker system for the abandoned part. I am seldom creeped out when exploring sites, but wandering around an abandoned mall with the muzak still playing is really unnerving.

Unfortunately, these pictures are not my best; I was trying to get as many pictures as I could before I completely lost the light. Either way, hope you guys enjoy.

Wow, that is cool. Surprised it hasn't been tagged up. Did you see any security?

lelandro: I didn't see a soul. No security, no taggers, no one.

dammband: There's nothing else of interest in the immediate vicinity, but there are several ghost towns and an abandoned water park in the surround areas. I'll post pictures of those in a bit.

I'm not sure you could even call it 'closed' now. There are still functional stores in a small portion of the mall. However, a much larger and nicer outlet mall opened across the street about ten years ago and I imagine it's been a slow decline ever since.

Hm. I'll have to check this out next desert trip. Hopefully, those last few operating businesses will fade away. I love the idea that the music is still playing. Makes it seem like you'll run in to zombies all the more likely.
