It is an interesting lead, unfortunately the main campus is now an active site owned by chemical company Magnablend.

Doesnt go anywhere, ends at a concrete wall.

I will probably get some flack for some of what I am going to say here but what the heck.

First, if you truly know much about the SSC and how it was built or have spent any time actually reading the docs at links posted there are very basic things you would know. 1. I think it was 13 or 14 miles of the tunnels bored not just a a few as mentioned, 2.) There actually is a chance the tunnels are not flooded, especially currently. Why do I say that? GO in to the files mentioned and and read them and you would know the static water level in the are is 9' above MSL (mean Sea Level) it is in the geo reports if you want to look. That puts the water table at about 400' down, the tunnels if I remember right were about 350-375. Based on that and the fact were way under on rainfall, they could be dry, have you looked at the lakes lately? Also after boring the tunnel walls were sprayed with guinite like material sort of like a swimming pool. The pics from the main building and Linac were done years ago before we hit the droughts of the past several years, they could be dry now.

That said, are they accessible? Well anything is possible but bear in mind, they were 350-375' below grade. Go downtown, look at a 30 story building and decide if you could rope it. I can tell you now, 99% chance the answer is F NO! Perhaps with electric hoists if you want to risk that but that's about the only way. Remember how hard it was to climb that roe in gym? That was about 25', and the access point around the ring would be the only way to access them The only access from the campus was the main shaft which we all know was filled in. THe only other access from the main building were conduit banks and your not going through those unless your squeezing through a 6" Conduit. The linac is basically the same thing, this was an injector point and the pipe was only about 2' and it full of conduits and mechanical monitoring equipment.

Another issue is if you did get down a shaft, there was plans to implode both sides of the tunnel at each entrance shaft but due to cost I am not sure that happened. Also since people thought they could possibly be sold and used for underground storage or something many were against doing that. like I say, not sure if it happened or not. IT may be in the docs but I am not sure only that there was a big push for it due to liability.

So good news, they could be intact and dry although after this long of no maintenance could be extremely unstable and collapsing also which no one ever mentions. Shit does have to be maintained!

Bad news, you have only one way to get to them, find one of the MAIN access shafts, none of which have been located so far, only monitor points, sorry to bust your bubbles guys on that one, as they were excavated, demo'd and capped and then covered, excavate it and using an electric winch lower your self down and then back out, which would require a generator by the way and not get caught!

How do I know all this, 2 reasons, one I did a shit ton of research on it years ago but more to the point, as some on here who know what I do for a living, I worked for the company who did the engineering and had access to a good chunk of info, what wasn't already in archives, plus was able to talk with some of the main engineers who worked on it during the job as well as on the shutdown.

It is "possible" but about 1/10 of one percent without permission which aint happening. It is a ton of fun to dream about and every new group of explorers who start this insane hobby we all love will at some point go through the process of trying to think it thru. Hey it's part of what we do and is definitely one of the top ten of "if I could explore anything it would be ..." as well it should be!

so, what you're saying is.. everything that's already been stated in this thread.

also, why would you bring up articles and links, if everything you posted after that was filled with, "i THINK.. bah blah" or "i'm PRETTY SURE.. blah blah blah" and "if i remember right.. blah blah blah"

First, if you truly know much about the SSC and how it was built or have spent any time actually reading the docs at links posted there are very basic things you would know

don't start a conversation like this^, and have your FIRST bullet point to support it be:

1. I think it was 13 or 14 miles of the tunnels bored not just a a few as mentioned

Now, I could be wrong, but this kinda looks like me in a SSC tunnel/shaft. ;)

I had to go take a look and I found it. It's possible the linac connects to one of the smaller, circular rings.

Edit: who owns the linac? Is the property currently being used?

All the main shaft openings are located and easily identifiable on bing or earth.

I finally did talk to my husband about the supercollider, he did say there was 10 to 15 feet of tunnel, a borer was buried there rather than bring it out and all the entrances have been filled. That's all I got.

OMG, I can't believe I'm doing this, but I'm going to read every post in this thread. Then I'll comment, then I may smile and just lock it. I don't know yet.

I can't believe I did this, but I have read every post in this thread. Why did I waste my time doing that? Hell if I know. I'm old and bored. I think the main reason I became so captivated by this thread is because the O.P. seemed to be so intent on not listening to what everyone was saying.

Wr0x2 isn’t new here. Been around since 2005. Hasn’t signed on since 9/7 so he may or may not see this. But here’s my take on this. Where you went wrong is NOT that you have a dream or a desire to explore the “holy grail” of places in this area to explore. Anyone who found this tunnel, got into it, and came back out with credible photos, would be the god of Texas explorations, even going beyond cdevon’s Texas Door discovery.

The ONLY thing interesting about this thread, to me, has been all the “yeah but” moments. Every time someone gives a legitimate and credible reason to think about this a little more, you come back with a “yeah but” and continue on without missing a beat. It’s like “hey, don’t cross the street, a bus is coming you way”. And then, “Yeah, but I saw on the net a place that….” Splat.

There have actually been a lot of good comments made, both pro and con, and I’m really glad the thread didn’t dissolve into a total shit fest. That’s the reason it hasn’t been locked. But I think it can be summed up like Link338 and Radical_Ed put it: (Link338) “The fact that you totally disregard everything that is said to you says a lot about you and your status as an "Urban Explorer"” and (Radical_Ed) “Yeah man, I'll defend your right to explore until I'm blue in the face but blowin' shit up?”

You can’t come in here not listening to the experienced explorers who have been doing this for years and blow off the help and advice they are giving you, and think they are going to fall in line and support you. It’s not a horrible idea to explore documentation and follow a passion for finding these tunnels. What is a bad idea is coming in here talking about using illegal and dangerous methods to get in there, if you do find them.

It goes against everything most of us here stand for; None destructive entry and exploration of an abandoned location. I know you’ll have some reason that what I’m saying doesn’t apply to you and you have all the answers. Smarter people than me have tried. But I’m gonna just say that if you are going to do it, just go do it. Don’t include a bunch of other people who may not know what they are getting into. Go find it, explore it, bring back photos that we can verify, and you will earn the respect that you feel you deserve now. But until then, I gotta tell you man, the way you are talking about going about this is one of the dumbest idea’s I’ve heard to date. If you are not willing to listen to seasoned explorers, and at least give thought to what they have to say to you in an effort to help you, then you will not have much luck convincing anyone that you know what you’re doing. Good luck. If you find this, I promise I’ll be the first one in line to pat you on the back for a job well done.

PS> Yes, I do care if you get hurt or killed. I don’t want to see that happen to anyone. And it has a few times.
PSS> I won’t lock this thread unless it becomes a shit storm. Then, it’s closed.
