Retrospective: Mendon House

I need to do more research into who lived here. Might actually be related! What are the chances?

Looks like it was abandoned suddenly or forcefully. Weird for a house, I think. It's the first full house I've discovered.

From what I can gather, these people had gotten married and had kids in the house. The guy graduated from the local high school, and their wedding photo was sitting on what was left of the kitchen sink.

Then the guy died, as there were signs that only a woman was living in the house for a long time. (Flowery drapes, women's magazines from the 60s, cook books, and so on.) There was a piano, but it hadn't been used for a long time, I think. No sheet music anywhere to be found, and there was a gaping hole in it.

It was stripped clean of anything 'useful' a long time ago. I found, after some difficulty, where the shower and toilet was located. Emphases on 'was' as there was only the hole for the drain.

The mattresses were gone, and the bed-frames leaned against the walls lazily.

I had walked in through the front door, where there had been signs of a renovation attempt given up on (also found signs confirming this upstairs). There were paint buckets and ladders about the place, along with water bottles. Not quite as decayed as the rest of the place, but still long-abandoned.

Sometime after this, I think there was a squatter, as there were a few bags set up for that, but the place was so open they might not have felt safe either, and left in the past five years.

Thankful I was wearing a mask--if not the greatest one--I chanced opening the fridge. It had been completely cleaned out--thank God!

Around the back, I found the garage door had been totally ripped off, creating a very easy entry point. There was a baby toy in the yard, which I couldn't get a good picture of without my shadow being in.

There was a shed, a pile of wood, and a horse trough outside. It bordered a farm.

Pics coming soon, of course.
