If you are a novice ... get a 9mm.
45 and 40 are a bitch to control.
9mm is a breeze to shoot.
Glock G26 is a gold standard for semiauto CCW.

Revolvers?
I carry 642s IWB all summer long.
38 is a crap cartridge, but a pistol is just a gun you use to fight your way to your shotgun.

I routinely harvest deer with .22LR on my back lot.
Have shot dozens of deer at 100m with a single .22LR round.
22 will kill you where you stand.
SHOT PLACEMENT is key.
