Its business as usual at The Homestead, a day after general manager Peter Faraone emailed his entire staff about a potential sale.
Although The Homestead isn't officially on the market, its parent company KSL Capital is heading in that direction.
Faraone explains why he sent the email out.
“I felt it was better being a small town, as you well know, that we would let the employees know that the opportunity does exist just in case there are people that come through and take a look at the asset that might have an interest in purchasing us,” Faraone explained.
Faraone says the selling process wouldn't happen over night. In fact, when KSL bought the property in 2007 it took two years to complete the sale, so employees have experienced a change in management before.
Faraone says like last time, if the resort were sold the nearly 9-hundred employees would hardly notice a change.
So, why now?
Faraone says KSL is a capital company and now might be the time to make some money.
He isn't aware of any potential buyers - either a company or an individual.
Just across the mountain in West Virginia sits a similar resort, Jim Justice's The Greenbrier.
One might think buying the competition is a good business idea.
When asked if The Homestead had been contacted by Justice, Faraone said, “not to my knowledge I certainly have not, but I’m not sure if the company has. You know it will be interesting to see, but an individual like Jim Justice might step forward, you never know.”
If Justice is interested, we don't know.
However, his Director of Public Relations says he is well aware of the news coming from The Homestead.
