Me and a few friends tried to hike the short trail and find these two tunnels.
On the way up to the first tunnel we discovered a smaller tunnel down one of the hills. But we couldn't get down to it so we continued on to the first and second tunnels.
After reaching the second tunnel and we decided to just head back home, as it didn't seem that there was much else around to see. But there was!
On the way back down we took a side trail and discovered a small third tunnel leading under the road. It was built to ensure the structural integrity of the road in case of rain or flood. But it was used by us for exploration.
When we came back out of the first additional tunnel, we realized that there was a lot more going on than we first realized. We expected two tunnels and found a lot more. And now we began to actively search for others.
We found another of these drainage tunnels underneath the first road tunnel. But again there was no way to get down to it. So we continued on our way, only to find (what we can only assume is) the other side of the smaller tunnel!
This tunnel would have to be at least 20-30 longer than the large road tunnel, but it is also slightly cramped (about 4.5-5 feet high). We began climbing in and turned on the flashlights. As we got deeper inside it became pitch-black, but I saw light coming from the other side of the tunnel. Thinking it was the exit I told my friends to kill the lights so that I could see the exit better. Problem was, when their lights turned off so did the light at the end of the tunnel.
When the flashlights were turned on again I could see the other light, which meant that our lights were just reflecting on something in the distance. Something that was moving... and now that I was really paying attention it had a cat like shape.
Very quickly we realized that it was in fact a mountain lion staring back at us. So we all yelled "RUN" and ran back as quickly as we could in the cramped space.
Needless to say we didn't visit anymore tunnels that day. Okay that's a lie, we went into three more that day and counted a couple more!
I'll be adding videos to Youtube soon.
