Published 18 August 2010 in the Chronicle-Herald:

RCMP are asking for the public's help as they investigate a violent assault on a security guard at the old Halifax County Rehabilitation Centre on Bissett Road.

Cpl. Joe Taplin said the guard was patrolling the vacant property — which was once used as a set for The Trailer Park Boys — Monday at about 10 p.m. when he saw four young people at the west corner of the building who were not supposed to be there.
When he approached the boys, he was hit in the side of the head with a rock. He fell to the ground, and the youth kicked him in the chest about four times, before fleeing the area.

The victim dropped his cellphone in the fracas and it's possible that the attackers stole it, Taplin said.

The guard then walked to a nearby residence for help.

Taplin said the man received minor injuries in the attack and didn't require medical attention.

Anyone with any information about the assault is asked to contact any RCMP office, Halifax Regional Police or Crime Stoppers anonymously by calling 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca

Yea, a security guard with nothing but a cell phone approaches 4 illegal trespassers at 10 at night. Not a very smart friggin security guard if you ask me.

But then, he is a rent a cop... and they're usually not the brightest people on this side of the grass.

His job probably specifically states that he not get involved and just call the police who are like a kilometer away... AFAIK, theses guys are the observe and report type of guards.. I could be wrong though.

I'll believe it happened until its officially stated otherwise. I live down the road like 30 seconds, so i can wholeheartedly believe it happened. As Cole Harbour's population is basically a swath of hoodlums in baggy pants.
