there used to be a lot of houses back there (i don't know when) but then the city bought al most all the houses except five that are still there. they then tore down all the houses because they were planing to turn the area into an industrial area but they never built any thing

I'm not even sure if there are five buildings left. Last time I was back there it was down to two. I used to shop at Rose City Distributors which was on Healy. Guy operated the small shop out of his house before moving to Lasalle. It still feels strange exploring this area because I vividly remember it being built up with lots of houses. The steel mill that was supposed to be the lifeblood of this area never happened. Now we wait patiently for the DRIC crossing plaza to see if it ever becomes a reality. Until then... ghost town.

Thanks for the update! I travel to this area once a year, and every time I pass the old gas station, I'm tempted to stop in and take a look. And now that I know about the town that used to be there, next time I'll definitely stop by.

I can personally attest to the old gas station as being long gone. Has been torn down to make way for the Windsor/Essex Parkway and new Detroit River bridge crossing into Detroit, downriver of the Ambassador Bridge. If anyone knows how to update its location on the database map the icon should be where the town of Yawkey appears at the Western end of the E.C. Rowe Expressway.

The proper google map co-ordinates of where that old gas station was is as follows. 42.275185,-83.080367
