Cleanup continues at four locations today where Mercury was found last week.
The toxic chemical came from gauges at the Riverview Water Treatment Plant.
Tuscaloosa mayor Walt Maddox says an investigation should reveal why the Mercury was not removed when the city stopped using the plant in 1994.
He says Mercury was used in the plant’s machinery and not to treat water.
About 120 pounds of the silvery element was found in the city Wednesday.
The Mayor’s Office also says if you, or your child, have been to this location, please contact Tuscaloosa 311 for information regarding the health concerns of exposure to Mercury.
The spills were found in the Guildswood area, the ST Bunn Construction office, a wooded area on Jack Warner Parkway, and another site was on private property near the former Riverview Treatment plant.
