Very little demo has been down to this site. The main office building is still intact, as well as most of the refinery. They have been digging all over the site, to meet EPA and CARB standards for hazardous waste. (must dig ten feet down, and ten feet around and away from the spill area) A word of caution, there is a 24 hr watchmen who lives in a Winnebago on the site, but with a little effort, he can be avoided. I live less than 4 miles from the site in Ojai, so I drive by it almost everyday, and have explored it several times.

There are two watchmen. They work during the week, typically noon to a bit after five. The watchman on the northside has a very large pit bull that he plays fetch with. The watchman in the building on the south side of the property is nice, he hangs out inside the building mostly. They are OK with you taking pictures during the day, as the students from the photography school just down the road come over all the time. They are going to start tearing down the largest structures next to the frontage road on 4/2/12, which will involve asbestos abatement, and lots of guys in hazmat suits. Would not recommend going near this place once they start kicking up all the asbestos particles.

I visited this site on Monday. It appears as though very little demolition has taken place so far. Workers are present during the day until about 5:30-6:00PM. They may be digging, or possibly working in some other way, but they are certainly not demolishing. As for security, I only saw a single rent-a-cop who had his flamboyant security car parked by the gate. The guard himself was sitting at a table in front of the gate in the late afternoon until about 5:30PM. Around 6PM I saw his car driving around the work site. I left shortly after this, so I'm not sure if he's on 24 hour watch. Either way, he appears to be an old man and shouldn't be too difficult to avoid. Overall, the site is worth visiting, as the main buildings and structures are still around but are likely to be demolished soon.
