This is a great location, not a sign of vandals, except for the playful rearrangement of the "days without an incident" sign. Most of the people that come through here are taking a shortcut to the Mt. Marcy trail. I first posted the interior pics, which just scratched the surface, then took them down because I thought it would draw attention to the site.
Changed my mind. Vandals will be vandals, and cops will be cops, and we, as explorers are kind of on our own. I will be posting more interior shots hopefully during the winter. This is the most desolate yet fascinating place I have ever seen and I would like everyone to see it. Even the hikers admire it, just because it doesn't belong here. Oh well I've changed my opi, nion on publicity, enjoy, as far as I'm concerned we are the only historians left, and as such I'll continue to take pictures.

I got your tour winner right here pussies, at least he'd crash out trying.

Dukes, Interesting to read your comments. I have had a strong interest in the Macintyre Redevelopment for some time now but have also hesitated to talk much about it. Dou you reside in WNY? If so perhaps we could get together sometime to chat off line. Otetiani.

it seems you all explore the lower works, but does anyone explore the upper works?

It's a mystery as to what is there with the exception of the now private Tahawus club; There are some buildings back there, but that road is best left for summertime.

As far as I know, these are mainly camps, not sure what if any Macyntire structures are there.
But it must have been called "Upper works for a reason".

I wandered into the club area a couple years ago and was turned out by some apparently very wealthy folks from downstate. The clubhouse is right on the road, beyond that the trail I took was desolate. There must be some remains of the old development up there.

wealthy assholes from downstate... jeez, asshats like that are ruining my adirondacks.
Shoulda dared them to call the fuzz... their precious cellphones wouldn't get out of those hills! Bwahahahaha!
Ok, ok... the maniacal moment has passed. Most of the clubs and camps up there are just leased ADK Park land which you have every right in the universe to cross.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE TAHAWUS AND OTHER LOCATION SITES???? Have you ever noticed the strange cone shaped tower in one of the private camps along the road to upper works? Looks like an old farm silo but seems out of place. I need to take a photo next time up there.

Well ; apparently you don't waste 75 percent of your free time here like I do;
There's a new "trust" system in place, and it's really quite frustrating given the fact that you are the second person I've run into that simply enjoys the place, means no harm, been around awhile, could care less about forums and grandstanding, doesn't check the thread "trust system Mark " and realizes suddenly that they can't view the LDB.
I'll PM you.
I'll post a pic of the silo; I believe that location was a sawmill , but I cannot envision the purpose of said silo. Sawdust?
It's unique, but it's on private property. I know that sounds stupid; but a hunting club owns it, and it isn't an "abandonment" perse.
Details coming via PM Otet.

that particular location (the odd cone on the west side of the road) is a sawdust burner. The cone design with the grating on the top is to keep the embers from escaping and torching the rest of the forest. At one point, that was a sawmill, but in recent years, it is another Newcomb Sportsman Club location. I have seen these in other locations.
