Hello,

Historically, the Peninsular Paper Company manufactured newsprint, first from rags, and later from wood pulp. They supplied the Chicago Tribune around the turn of the century.

Later, starting I believe in the 1960s, they retooled the plant to make specialty "fine" papers, after they were bought out by James River and then Curtis.

I'm afraid I don't know much more than that insofar as their processes. In 2001 the mill stopped production, and in 2002 or 2003 they sold their fourdrinier line (to whom I don't know, but would love to find out), thus the large empty room in the photos.

I'm going to be setting up a gallery on my website of more information/photos related to Peninsular, probably sometime this fall or winter, and will post a link to that here once it's live. It will be similar in organization to this partially finished section I've made about another mill, the Jaite Paper Company, in Ohio's Cuyahoga River Valley:

Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions.
