The Union Stock Yards was such a great, historical building. The whole hector of land from the USY up to Archibald, and from Marion street to the swamp was a real landmark. When Mulrooney introduced the GST to Canadians, there used to also be Canada Packers LTD, and about 15 years before that, Swift Meatpacking closed its operations. In the early days, cattle stock was traded, maintained, butchered, packaged and shipped all from that piece of land. All that remains is the water tower, and bits & pieces of the old employee parking lot ( broken up and grown in with wild grass).
