| | | Evidently the demise of byberry is STILL a bit off. In a recent correspondence with a rep from the developer I was told "...We are still negotiating the various agreements for acquisition..." He did not give any specifics as to exactly where along the line the negotiations are at the moment, but that things are dragging a LOT worse than he had expected (in our last conversation the same rep told me that the whole place would be down by new year's). Obviously this ain't gonna happen. Also, an article published recently by the Phila. Inquirer, states that while the official redevelopment of the site will feature... "55 acres along the boulevard to be used for offices and light industry, 50 acres for housing, and the 25 acres closest to the existing homes ( on carter road -rk ) to remain as open space" While this is the currently agreed upon plan, the article goes on, there is still disagreement within the area residents... "...president of the Somerton Civic Association, indicated that her organization planned to hold out to maintain all of the homes - there could be between 300 and 400 - for older childless residents." Note that the developers are under no legal obligation - as i understand it - to comply with the ever changing wishes of the various local civic groups. Afterall, not one year ago the current redevelopment plan was accepted by referendum, and that vote was supposed to be binding. Who knows though. It's easy to see, with all these different opinions and such being thrown about by the media, the developer, the PIDC, and all the little civic groups, how all the confusion on this board could be created.
