New Feature: RSS Feeds

Hey everyone,

I had an hour of spare time and added RSS feeds to some parts of UER:


  • New Threads page
  • Each category section
  • Each level of the Location Database (all, country, province, city)


To use, find the RSS icon on each page, or click the RSS icon in your browser's address bar, if supported.

Please be aware that these RSS links are specific to you, and will show everything that you are authorized to see. Don't share these links with your friends or post them on your blog. The links are connected to your UER account, and will stop working if you change your password.

If you don't know what RSS is, you should probably look into it -- it's a great way to keep track of what's new on your favourite websites without having to visit them every day to check what's new.

It's pretty coincidental. We had a little side discussion going on about UER and RSS feeds over in the 'Pissed Off' forum.

Page 2 is on the only one really relevant to the UER RSS feeds. Also, you'll have to be a member of the Pissed Off forum first before clicking on it.

Just wanted to through this out there to try and bring this conversation to one central place (here).

Basically, does anyone know how to take the various UER RSS feeds, parse them, merge them into one RSS applet/gadget/widget/thing so it can be a one-stop-shop instead of having like 10 different UER feeds in use?

Read them via PHP, and merge them in a new RSS for your webapp to read

Hah. Yah, I know what you're saying, but doing it is a different story. I usually don't do that type of stuff. I was working with PHP at work the other day and wanted to gouge my eyes out. Yah, I'll maybe give it a try this weekend or something.

I see the story (for example, [Canada: Ontario] Massive Pollution...). If I hit enter nothing happens. If I use the menu I can choose "open" but it doesn't open. I did set it up with my userid and password. The URL I'm using is http://www.uer.cda/rss/newthreads/rob666/78a308...etc. I get all the new stories, just can't open them.
