wow. I think I know exactly what part they're talking about.
...Hearns a pretty sketchy place now days, but at least almost everything is still structurally sound...that place is built like a tank and they're gunna have to blow it up to get it to fall down. not like the upper catwalks at the brickworks. the fall might not be as large, but everything is way flimsier than Hearn - that place scares me way more. Im actually surprised no salvage workers have gotten hurt @ hearn yet....its one thing to visit, but looks like a real shitty place to work every single day.
I also dont know what coal elevator they said he fell off of...as mentioned before, they havent been there for yrs.

When Conundrum and Av went up the stack, myself and caesium did some 'recon' to make sure it was safe. It took them them, from the time of ascent until they were back on the ground, 4 hours or so.

And (from what I understand) it's been sealed up ever since.

It isn't sealed up, per say...they put a huge metal object infront of the door that isn't going to be moved without some kind of machine.

There is radio equipment for Toronto Police on the stack, so they can't permanently seal it.

A couple pics.... http://www.uer.ca/...=20005&galid=25105

Toronto fire had 15 trucks on scene for Ryan, tying up a lot of resources.

'Ryan' is screwed. Current billing rates for TFS are;
Pumper: $500
Rescue: $425
Squad: $750
Air Light: $600
Hazmat: $800
Tower: $550
Command 30: $800
District Chief: $400
Platoon Chief: $500

So, the bill which SHOULD be sent to this guy is going to total around $8000.

If he gets said bill, you can bet he'll hire a lawyer, and you can bet that lawyer will go after OPG who would be ordered to either demo or secure the hell out of the place - malt-plant styles.

The Malt is a good example of what happens when an incident gets the attention of the city officials...nobody was hurt during that one either.

Forgive me, but do you actually do any of this stuff still, or do you get your kicks these days exclusively from coming on here and psychically undermining / giving the fear to those who do?

Since none of us know what happened, and nor at this rate are we likely to unless the victim or someone who knows him comes on here and tells us about it, I think it's really stupid and indefensible to be relishing the financial penalties that may come down on the guy, let alone speculating about what his response will be. Most of us have faced a non-zero potential for an accident of this nature on more than one occasion; personally speaking, I've put a foot through a metal floor and in a separate incident slid two hundred feet down an underground spillway at relatively high velocity. I think it's pretty tasteless to be speculating about how "screwed" the guy is.

Now, I don't usually pull out this 'reach into the heart of your activity' bullshit (I'm usually the one being accused of not being sympathetic enough to the aims and feelings of others). Similarly, you're probably too deeply sunk into your emergency services foaming to exhibit any genuine empathy. But I don't know, some measure of restraint could be imposed on the currently baseless scorn to which you're subjecting the guy. We don't know what happened, and this accident may very well have occurred outside of any deliberate decision and failure of observation he made that day short of not going into the upper levels of that plant. The hazard may have been difficult to spot or non-objective, the guy may have been as prepared and observant as you or I, and simply stepped onto the wrong spot during the wrong period in the building's history.

None of us who actually do this stuff are immune to the possibility of getting 'screwed' seven stories up an abandoned industrial building, and until there are facts on the ground that implicate a serious mistake of objective judgment in this accident, none of us should be acting as if we're better than the victim.

This situation could possibly have happened to any of us here. I think some empathy would be nice. Personally, I worry for this fellow and hope he comes out of this ok. I certainly don't wish huge bills upon him.

Also, $8000 is a small price to pay for your life.

Well, if Hearn gets demolished, at least I have a front row view from my balcony.

I"m glad this guy survived... his friend sounded responisble. Instead of panicking and running, they got in touch with the right people. This kind of responsibility points to "Ryan" et al, being one of ours, rather than stupid kids breaking in and drinking.

Yet more great proof as to why you don't go exploring alone.

Hope the guy is okay. It's real easy to trip over shit in the dark and I've also had fear of falling off catwalks and what not.

Since it was the afternoon I'd bet it wasn't very dark at all inside. Still wondering how he fell off the catwalk... did it collapse or did he just not notice that they ripped that section down (usually leaving a stretch of cables across with a warning reading DANGER: OPEN HOLE or something similar).

A scary reminder for us to watch where we're stepping when inside these places.

I've said this somewhere else, but the top level was being taken apart last time I went. It appeared as if it was being welded out bit-by-bit from the center out. It is dark up on that level, but if the construction lights weren't on, that could have contributed.

And like cyn1c4l said it was good this person wasn't alone. That is probably why he still alive. And better yet, the friend didn't take off.

Yokes, running east west on the highest level.

Assuming they're still there, the actual hoppers are most likely these structures:
