Posted by Air 33 Geezus they gave away an access point! |
Posted by exkalibur If you live anywhere near Toronto and don't know of an access point, you fail. Also... I don't think going to the top of the smokestack is THAT common - it is one hell of a physically exhausting climb. |

Posted by Air 33 Signs warning trespassers are on the chain link and barbed wire fences encircling the entire compound. And although the property is watched by a private security firm and has a main guardhouse with a security guard posted all the time, police say it is common for people to come onto the property, cross the conveyor belt and climb a smokestack that leads to a beautiful view of the city. |
Posted by nightbird So it's a 27-ish year old guy named Ryan...this ring a bell with anyone? |
Posted by micro It's not as though this particular incident tipped them off or something. I might be wrong, but I just don't see much changing as a result of this. |
Posted by langP I'm glad it sounds like he's going to survive, but on a selfish note, here's another place that I'll now probably never get to see. . . If it ain't arsonists, it's high profile accidents prompting stronger security or speedy demolition. |
Posted by Conundrum The View from the top of the stacks in amazing, I made the trek up to the top with Avatar-X a few years ago. |
Posted by micro Well, given that they've been shuffling their feet dismantling the place for (what?) the past eight years, I kind of doubt this event's going to make them speed up the process any. It's also unlikely that the security situation is going to change either. I mean, what are they going to do? Pay another lazy guard to sit around 24/7 in hopes of catching those pesky trespassers? Security and OPG have known about people making unauthorized visits for years now. It's not as though this particular incident tipped them off or something. I might be wrong, but I just don't see much changing as a result of this. |
