I'm not really into the American gun culture thing and I don't feel particularly threatened when I go exploring somewhere, so I don't feel the need to get a weapon when exploring. If the place is occupied by sketchy people, I would just slowly walk away.

depends on my mood and where im headed. i ALWAYS carry a knife, but thats a tool, not a weapon. a 6 cell mag is good, but if i dont have that, i have a pistol on me. i used to carry my .40, but now that i have a little 380 that fits in my pocket, i carry that

Being female and often traveling solo in remote desert locations, I am almost always armed. When I meet people in the places I travel, the folks I meet are likely as not to be armed as well. It's much more likely that they will ask me how I like the particular weapon than to be put off by it. I would be VERY unlikely to open carry in an urban environment. I need to renew my concealed carry permit...

I rarely feel threatened when I scout or explore a site, so I don't put a lot of thought into the subject. However, I do carry a 3 inch (it's the legal limit in my state) knife with me at all times, mostly for if I get tangled, etc., but I guess it could do damage if need be. But mostly I'd rely on easily accessible pepper spray and a good ol' Maglite.

I have carried a hunting rifle for self-defense against wildlife in certain places I've explored. However, in my own country I see no reason to carry any kind of weapon because I don't feel myself threatened.
edit: I do have a titanium crowbar in my car, though, just behind the seat. For obvious reasons I won't take it with me when I enter abandoned places, but I'm a bit afraid of road rage and coming across a situation where I might have to go between two fighting parties to defend the other.
Yes, it's titanium alloy. The ultimate urban explorer's novelty item...

I have a fishing knife I usually carry as well as a trusty canister of pepper spray. The spray will be the first thing I pull, and the knife is more of a tool, but also a last resort.
