Didn't realize they sent prisoners all the way across the country, even back then. Sidenote: Kingston pen for women became a museum shortly after its closing in 2000. The IT guy in my department used to be a carpenter out there and has lots of stories both about how nice Karla Holmolka's cell was (exercise bike and everything), and the sweet tunnel system underneath. The prison heating plant is right beside the women's prison and the steam tunnels currently in use were apparently first built to move the prisoners from one location to another underground. All hearsay, but I don't see any reason not to believe. Queen's UNiversity is currently talking with Corrections Canada to buy the prison and turn it into I don't know what. Hopefully a first year student residence ;)

A startling and ultimately ironic pairing here. Not to play censor here, but could we please not mention that person's name again?

A museum showing women's prison-weapons/tools. -and you know what sort of makeshift "tools" there would be in a all-womens prison. A museum exhibitioning femenist relics? [Sorry about the silly]
I'm going hunting for mysteries, cover me. |

Kinda cool thread I found during one of my weekly 'tunnels under victoria' Google searches. Amazed I haven't run into it before, I usually try different combinations of words. Mostly already known topics but I've never heard of the Cistern before... http://vicbc.tribe...-9b0b-4327cbc0be6f
hey! |

Wow. Thats definitely enlightening, if its true. I wanna know about the cictern, too. Maybe I'll head to the BC archives tomorrow.

I tried the door, and it was <GASP> locked and <GASP> bolted. If it had been unlocked and unbolted, you'd be reading something different, and looking at pictures of something really really cool.

Dr. David Lai's book has an illustration. Peterman believes that the citern is misrepresented in the book; it is actually off by a few dozen meters, and that the space where Lai's cistern is is actually something else. Ask Peterman about it.

I got some photocopies from the vic archives with Dr. Lai in it, but didn't really mention a lot, just what I've read on here about the gambling, etc. I think you guys are right to head off in the cistern direction. Sadly, I think the Chinatown tunnels have been excluded thoroughly. Oh, slightly off topic... Anyone as excited about the Titanic exhibit as I am? I would LOVE to go down to that in a sub. If only I had $30 000.

Get in on some of the high stakes gambling in Underground Chinatown. Problem solved.

Anyone notice the giant pit beside the Budget lot? Where the graffiti door is? All those deeply-rooted pile-drive um...poles? Looks like they've been there a looong time. Oh...the graffiti door...it's all ready to pop the lock and peel it back for a peep inside.

I think the dude stores his motorcycles from the rental place in there. Didn't you already check that location out? The way in is still wide open.

Isn't that the door thats been mentioned before...? It lead to the service room or something? Still worth looking around.
I wish we had sweet mental hospitals and prisons to look around in like some of the other UERs. Although, there is the old emergency room in that one hospital.

Nah...those places are easy to get into. We have something better, and far more challenging. I spoke with a magazine/news paper proprietor yesterday morning. He works in an old building downtown and his business has been in the same place for a couple of decades. He told me he's heard every story under the sun re: Secret Tunnels Under Victoria. KK: Are any of them true? MP: Well. You need to consider a few things. There are likely tunnels under this city by virtue of the fact that almost every old city has them. Especially in cities where there is a well-established Chinese community. Vancouver, Seattle, San Francisco. Victoria is no different. KK: Have you seen them? MP: I grew up here and I've seen the changes Victoria has undergone, especially in the last twenty or so years. They dig old stuff up all the time. It isn't too difficult to believe that they've uncovered the odd passageway below street level. I've seen one or two things that didn't mesh with the official version. And then he asked me if I was a reporter. I was thumbing through a photography magazine. I told him I'm just interested in Victoria's history. MP: Don't believe the people in City Archives. They've thrown out so many red herrings it has completely baffled the truth. There are tunnels under this city. You can write that down. No one at City Hall will admit that. Neither will the police. But I know for a dead-to-right fact that there are tunnels. I paid for the magazine and thanked him for the tip.

I have no knowledge of any such thing.

If anybody's up for it, I think we should have a meet and search for the tunnels.

HEY...that's a GREAT idea. You've read through the thread, right? Cuz...that's kinda what we've been doing for 2 years.

Well, sorry Mr. Sarcasm. I obviously have 6 hours to just sit down and read all 69 pages of this thread.
But honestly, I say we organize a Victoria meeting soon. I really wanna check out a hospital too, if anyone wants to join me.
edit: spelling. and sorry about the attitude. I had a shit day at work.
