Thanks for the replies and/or avatar compliments, Lien, Kubla, et al. I just talked to my girlfriend about the possibility of my checking out the back of Green Cuisine. Unfortunately, there are a couple of cleaners who stay there pretty late, so a troupe of explorers might be a much. However, I'm thinking I'll sneak back there some time when I'm waiting for her to finish up and check out some of the doors. Apparently it's a labyrinth back there.

The only thing is, I'm expecting to meet a bunch of locked doors back there. I was thinking I'd take my makeshift little lock-pick set but, having recently moved, that idea has been kiboshed (madness, madness everywhere and not a drop to drink). If anyone around UE finds one of them handy little street-sweeper blades, perhaps I could alleviate you of said burden. Or, for that matter, if someone has a more effective means of getting to where one would like to go, well, you see where I'm going...

Another thing is that from what I've heard about this place at night, I'm a little heebie-jeebified. My girlfriend certainly seemed spooked after she went into the back to get a package from a deliver guy, and when she went to the door that she was told earlier to open, she couldn't open it, because the delivery guy was obviously trying at the same time (everyone knows that feeling of resistance when you're trying to jiggle a handle at the same time someone else is). Anyway, a co-worker heard the racket, came back and said, "No, that's not the right door. It's the next door on your right. I don't even know where that door leads."

And then there's the standard stories each co-worker (my girlfriend included) has about how the lights keep getting turned back on, every single time they turn them off. A wiccan friend of mine suggested that perhaps it was the spirit of a little girl who was afraid of the dark. At this point, I'm pretty sure that if I went back there, I'd be going it alone. So, I'm not sure how long I'll be able to be exploring back there before my irrational fear gets the better of me.

Anywho, if anyone has anything that could help me out, or if you're willing to drag along a UE enthusiast next time you go check out a new lead, or even an already established spot, PM me. (or whatever they call it on this site) I also use msn Messenger, if it's easier for you. Of course, you'd have to PM me anyway to get that address...

I feel your pain, Brother. Honestly, I do.

Where there's a will, there's a way IN, and I intend to find it. Locks are somebody else's problem. We've come too far to let such simple mechanical annoyances hinder our progress.

That said, I am generally unassuming in appearance, and I am more-or-less subdued (despite what others may claim) in tone.

Unless I have a few, then I'm gregarious (despite what others may claim).

What this boils down to is that if one were to provide a humble KublaKhan with a tour/access, he'd be in awe, and would be eternally grateful.

Think about it.

Okay. Well, the employees there are a little strange, but I think I can probably get back there and do a little probing, and if I find anything of interest, I'll see about getting a little field trip together.

Hmm, I just said little three times in one paragraph. I should pick up a thesaurus.

Of course they are; they work in a vegan restaurant.

Very true. I never thought veganism was that bad an idea until I knew someone who worked there. You should see the owners. Scary. I mean like, wow. People like that exist?

WRONG. I have nothing...absolutely NOTHING...to do with Tofu. Tofu is the domain of The Other Guy.

I'm into animals and their mysteriously delicious flesh.

I'd just like to mention for the record, I'm a vegetarian. I'm not a vegan, because that's just too far. Actually, technically, I'm a pescitarian. Go ahead and google it. I know you want to.

I must disagree with Google on this. A pescetarian would be an eater of lukewarm food. A piscitarian would be someone who avoids eating things with complex kidneys.

Which seems a strange decision to me, given that fish are one of the most unethical and unhealthy food choices. So full of mercury and PCBs, which do all sorts of nasty things to you. And 30% of our seafood species have already disappeared from the oceans with those remaining quickly following, the latest evidence projects a complete collapse of all seafood species within the next 40 years. Personally, I'll stick to eating things with at least one set of legs.

Now that was off topic. Sorry. And no insult intended, I love vegetarians. They taste better. Can I come along if you succeed in getting a little field trip put together? Pretty please? I'll protect Kubla from the vegans.

Well...maybe a bit of a stretch.

In any event, all these tangents make for an apt metaphor of some mysterious network that somehow seems to find itself back on track from time to time, leading readers into uncharted areas.

Speaking of tunnels, and speaking of people who speak of tunnels, I met a kindly old gent yesterday afternoon, another life-long resident of our beloved Garden City, who told me about the time he and his gang of three (circa 1945) discovered an open bulkhead...or what he now calls a bulkhead...on Government St. and Harald St. and pointed in the general direction of Fisgard St. Or at least, from his recollection, indicated that if one were to draw a straight line from the entrance and moving forward (if this makes sense) would have led directly to what is now Fan Tan Alley, which was, back in the day, a collection of laneways, courtyard entrances, etc.

The old guy, now in his late 70's, said that they were too frightened to take a gander inside, as they had been told by various older brothers. etc. (who were at the time serving their country) about the kinds of activities that went on in wartime Chinatown.

I found his story interesting, mainly because I had met a young woman...a bit of a meth head...who claimed that she had been taken into some sort of tunnel through an open manhole, and that another guy told me a similar story. This was again confirmed by an area business owner who told me that his building has the last remaining access point to an underground coal shute, and that this shute encircles the entire building.

This would be around Harald St. Check your recent fire history: a blaze took down an old building, and some locals reported seeing a entrance that lead into some underground thingy.

Finally, Peterman and I spoke with a nice chap about his experiences of actually being within arms reach of an entrance on Fisgard, and that his very cursory survey of the site led him to believe that it went in a straight line toward Harald. St.

Connection these dots, then, places an entrance on Fisgard and connects to the bulkhead my older gent friend told me about yesterday, and all this has been corroborated by a) meth head chick, and b) scabby man in rumpled clothes, both of whose stories may be found somewhere in this thread...probably around page 10 or so.

If you want to read those posts, use search-term 'meth head chick' and 'scabby dude.'

Explorer alert!

Construction is starting at the site of the old Empress Power Plant Laundry building. This tunnel is certified 100% real and proven to exist. Although some sections apparently have been filled in, due to cave ins.

Let's keep an eye on the site, I suspect they will come across an entrance, sealed or not. I wonder if they even know what they are about to discover...

I'm not saying I'll eat any old thing that comes from the sea, I'm just saying it's the only kind of meat I'll eat. Oysters from Tofino, and unfarmed tuna. And sushi. Dear god, don't take my sushi from me.

This is the sort of shit that flies off the top of Tanuki's head with great regularity. He knows this stuff. He can tell you things about pescetarians AND piscitarians, and usually within the same sentence, that you wouldn't even consider.

He could be making these things up. And I'd buy ever last word, and look upon him reverently, and I'd be in awe of his staggering deapth of knowledge. He could be bullshitting me TO MY FACE, and I'd nod and strike a profound posture, and I might even say something like, "I've read about this (a lie, of course, intended to make me appear informed and passingly knowledgable), and he'd be telling me that a piscitarian would be someone who avoids eating things with complex kidneys, and he could be making it up.

TUNA??!! I don't think you could pick anything worse to eat. Tuna are top predators, they take up to 25 years to reach full size. Eating tuna is like eating tigers, and it's completely unsustainable. Just about all tuna fisheries are severely threatened. They are also very high in mercury because of how high they are on the food chain. And I think you are confusing salmon and tuna. The mantra is to avoid farmed salmon, with tuna it's to buy "dolphin free". Both of which are pretty ironic. Salmon farms are nasty because they will probably destroy the wild salmon population in the near future, but the salmon fisheries are currently destroying the wild salmon population. And dolphin free tuna? Dolphins aren't endangered, it makes more sense to eat tuna free dolphin. If you are looking for a healthy and moral protein source, stick with beef or pork or chicken or duck or rabbit or turkey or goose or goat or lamb or anything else of the sort, just pick ones that were produced on a sustainable farm.

Well, enough of going on tangents about dead animals and back to dead people... The crypt-ish thing in the last photo of TL's is fake and actually the entrance to the satanist tunnels. Or at least that's what somebody told me. But I don't understand why there would need to be a tunnel there. Perhaps there is a huge underground catacomb, Paris style?
