I am new to the tunnel scene but would be interested in talking anyone as a guide around Vic to point out any Landmarks or tunnels related to the occult.
: )

Look forward to exploring -D

I'm trying to nail this post right at the midnight hour. Just back from Tranquille, will add to that thread soon. Welcome aboard Screamwriter. I know the Butcharts building you speak of, it was great. Scary about your friend, hope he healed up well. Sounds great about your book and that tunnel.

More later...

Funny you should speak of the cement factory. I just scanned 3 pics of it in the computer to post. Not until tomorrow I think. Still looking for a good place to go tomorrow. I’m thinking under Ross Bay. Any advise would be good. Bringing my "B CAM" The camera that is not waterproof but is the most expendable if I have to remove dumpster juice from the heads. My friend was never quite the same after the fall for about 5 years. He joined scientology for a while so it was bad. I hear he’s ok now but he did marry his first or second cousin. Sooooooo.......yeah.

But anyone wanting to take me up on the adventure email me
Im gonna watch the omen and call it a night.

I've never been to Ross Bay Cemetery. I read up a little on it. Other than that, is there much interesting to see besides the unique grave markers? I got the impression that you were going to infiltrate the cemetery by sea.

Ross Bay Cemetary is quite close to the sea, as I think you know, but not as close as that other smaller one. (Which I don't think has any tunnels/drains)

A few years ago, after storms they had to remove driftwood from Ross Bay Cemetary, and Dallas Road. Then they (the city) built up the beach, now the logs don't fly as far, and the drive is less exciting.

I don't think that beach gravel project had any effect on the 'drains' under the cemetary. If you read back this thread, there is much interesting info, as you probably have. But check those tide tables very carefully if you venture toward the ocean underground.

Interesting Scream; about your friend, not to be a smartass, but look what happened to John Travolta. He became a Scientologist, and learned to dance exceptionally well, and make a few bucks between selling cans of paint. Glad your friend got better after a few years. Would be great to see your pics of the cement factory building. I only got to go once before it was detonated, and didn't bring the Kodak.

So I came back from Ross bay alive..

My friend who has no mad adventure skills backed out of joining me on a night vision surveillance mission of Ross Bay cemetery.

I had to draft by faithful dog to accompany me and alert me to any sleepwalking monks or displaced undead founding fathers who may be waiting to jump out from behind a giant cement chesspience.
In fact the biggest danger of being somewhere life that(That a place with a history of vandalism at Halloween and other interesting calendar dates) is that the security sweeps last night seemed rather intense but then again I don't go there a lot at night so I could be wrong.

The person who almost spotted me had some insanely intense porta-spot.(I want one) really messing up my night vision. So yeah no Satanist.

Not a big surprise considering if there was such a event it would make a lot more sense for the purists to hold in some private land in sooke or somewhere remote. However I had to follow up a tip.

On the Dallas road side where I entered I didn’t seem some interesting semi vertical manholes that I wondered if anyone from here had accessed. There was also a smaller rectangular shaped grate next to it that has been half pried off. It looked to small to access.

On another note earlier that day I was at Blenz coffee and the staff seemed unaware they where over one of Victoria’s first graveyards. That didn't scare the guy I was talking to as much as the thought that he was in a bad spot during an earthquake. Opps didn't mean to freak him out.

Here are the pictures circa 1992 of the cement factory before it was torn down.

It would be interesting to see if any of the surrounding structures are still there.

I will have to check it out. The other interesting cement factory of course is BAMBERTON. Im not sure if that place is still up either I heard it was being developed at long last. I shot a musicVideo up there about 10 years ago. Even then some of the walkways were just lime deposits. It was by far one of the coolist sites. Above ground anyway ;)

Nice photos screamwriter; an odd building, all those half floor levels, and that roof. There are a couple of small buildings down there, and I think some old footings and a few things of interest. I thought the chimney came down a few years ago, or one nearby did.

Tod Inlet is a nice short hike, and the trail goes close to the old building site.

Bamberton is accessible by road or boat, (gate closed weekends) and last time I went, about 2 years ago, it was okay to drive down and look around. I ventured off the road, on foot, and was intercepted and told we are not allowed to wander around the buildings for saftey liability reasons. There is a site office or caretaker nearby. Still, this site is well worth checking out. Cool about your music video shot there.

Nearby, off the southbound exit road is an abandoned closed off road, great for bikes. I heard it leads to an old quarry, but the road went into private property when I was there a few years ago. I don't know if there are any tunnels at Bamberton, those huge water? tanks half way up the hill may have large underground pipes?

Howdy...How goes it people. I've been holding out on this one for a while now. I suppose its not that great but here it is. As many of you probably already know (or have heard about) that there is a tunnel underneath the Legislature. This tunnel is used to carry steam and electricity from a small power/steam plant in behind the Royal Museum downtown. The tunnel has pipes and lines running through it along the wall. The emanating steam makes it really hot and stuffy.

You can gain access from a nearby office building which has its own private entrance to this tunnel through a door in the back of what used to be the building's staff cafeteria. A nice business-looking guy held the key-card activated building entrance door open for me Later I found you can also gain access to the building through automatic sliding doors in the rear of the building.

The tunnel runs underneath Government St. to the Legislature basement.

My sneakyaccomplice on this one was Mr A Lien

This is looking at the Legislature end of the tunnel.
There are a few stairs and then a door with a strange message posted on it.

So anyways the door with the disuading note was unlocked, haha, and we opened it and peered through to see what someone wheeling a large gold clothe rack-cart with red server clothes or uniforms on it..they didn't see us. There are a few doors leading out from the side of this tunnel which are large...red...and locked heavy-duty with iron hinges and old locking mechanisms...storage rooms? other tunnel conduits?

High Five A Lien

[EDIT: I wonder if the sign with the number on it was there so that dumb people would call it and the authorities could come and arrest you.]

So I'm sitting deck-side in Montreal, enjoying a very cold beer and trying to remain sane amid this Satanic heat and humidity, and an old University buddy sits down beside me and we start rapping about the Good Old Days when we listened to grunge and had long hair and smoked shitloads of hash, skipped class and dreamed of starting a poutine franchise, and he asks me what I've been up to low these ten (more) years.

Well...I'm living in Victoria now, wife/kids/etc, workin on a few things, keeping busy etc.

He's writing a book. Girlfriend dumped him for the 35 time (something of a serial romance, doncha know) trying to avoid his student loans, bitching about a lack of talent in the Scene and then we get into some specific nuts and bolts about our work.

I'm looking for tunnels in Victoria.

He's writing about tent cities people who live in them.

"I know a guy who says he lived in a tunnel in Victoria. It's near that big hotel."

"The Empress?"

"I guess. Whatever it's called."

"I know about that one. Old store-front windows and such."

"Yeah. He said he was chased out of it by some loon."

"There's a lot of lunacy in Victoria."

"So he says. Weird cult shit. Apparently, some kid was snatched by Satanists years ago."

"Doubtful. The kid is still AWOL. Don't know about the Satanists. Old rumours die hard."

"But still."

"But still. Interesting story. I've checked out a few locations related to that story. Storm drains. There may be a cult connection, but it's a dubious claim at best."

"And then there's the one about the grave yard that got buried."

"The coffee shop thing. Checked that one out too."

"And the Chinatown thing. Whorehouses and opium dens."

"Old news."

And then we talked about his book and the people who live in cardboard boxes near underpasses who freeze to death in the winter, or who get slit open and die, all emptied out in the gutter, who end up in potter's graves, listed as numbers or, worse, under the title UNKNOWN.

"The guy I know told me about the Masonic Order and some shit about an old building in Victoria that's connected to some residential area. I think he said it was some regular house that has a basement well or something like a pit that used to be a well and it's got a footpath that cuts to the Masonic Lodge or something."

I haven't heard that one yet. So I tell my friend, "I haven't heard that one yet."

"Yeah. On old office building or something in downtown Victoria that has a footpath that leads to a residential house a few streets up. And it opens in a well or something like a well. A dry well. No water, but a footpath instead."

"Is this for real?"

"How the fuck should I know. A friend told me and he's a bit of a nutter, lives off dumpster scraps and kills rats for sport."

"But he told you.?"

""Man, it's urban legend shit. None of it is real. There may be a kernel of truth somewhere, but it's buried too deep now for any real truth to surface."

And we drank our beer and I was satisfied, because, once again, I'd learned something I'd never heard before.

PETERMAN and Mr. A. LIEN: you wanna check this one out?

"PETERMAN and Mr. A. LIEN: you wanna check this one out?"

Toad-ally said the Frogman , check in with us when you're back in the City of 'alleged' (wink wink) Tunnels and Gardens. (To true believers, there is no 'alleged', only the ongoing search, discovery of clues, and (partial) confirmations, in whatever fascinating form they present themselves. And the never ending belief the tunnels exist, and that we will someday have full confirmation.

Behold if you will, an example of the power of belief, with a sweet pay off, and an eventual return to tunnel talk:

The other day I'm working on a film at the famous big hotel on James Bay. No, not as director unfortunately, (maybe someday?). Anyway, there's a scene in the restaurant, and I'm around the corner from all the extras at their tables, waiting by the entrance to this fancy restaurant. There's a lot of 'hurry up and wait' in this business, as anyone involved knows.

It's about 4:00 am, and there are a couple of make up ladies sitting nearby There's just the moderate noise of the teckies, and director and those people organising the next shot, away from our private corner. And then there is a very clear Meow, meow, meow, coming from up high in the ornate ceiling of this exquisite restaurant.

I turn to the make up artists, and they heard it as well, clear as a bell... Faster than I can say Casper, I didn't know you had a pet cat, one of the girls says, "a ghost" She immediatly goes into the hallway looking for a source for this feline voice. There is none. No explanation whatsoever. The noise came from high in the ceiling, but there is no 'catwalk' as it were, just detailed ornate woodwork, no exposed beams, and no sign of Pussy Galore. The make up lady totally believes in ghosts, but that's another story...

Cool, extra specially cool, because it was my birthday, and I have been wanting confirmation of the existence of ghosts for years. (Awesome present, thank you God/Satan, whoevrr) Now hopefully I can move up to hearing a dog, or maybe even seeing a ghost of a parrot, penguin or person.

Flashback a few hours to the previous evening of the same night... Soon after arriving to the check in area, I overhear a young fellow saying: "I know someone who works here, I used to work here, we explored the tunnels, there's a tunnel leading up to almost Nanaimo, where they used to drive trucks during the war"

Wow. My ears have turned into satellite dishes and I ask if the lad would step out into the hall for a minute. I tell him respectfully, I think he's a little off about the underground road, and he realizes it's a bit far fetched. However, he quickly starts talking about manhole covers, and a tunnel to Ross Bay from the house in that book. You mean Secrets of Victoria? "No," You mean Michelle Remembers? "Yeah, that's it, I've been to the manhole cover that connects to that house"

Not baad at all. I'm stoked, the kid's a bit off the charts, bouncin off da walls, but he's got spirit and he's got some solid foundation of facts. I asked for his phone number and can now call him about his employee friend for a possible tour...

Who knows?, what I have written here is all explicitly 100% true, but is what I was told?

Cheers,

A.

P.S. Thanks J.P. I found out one of the side doors of the tunnel we explored in your last post leads to the power plant. I guess that's why the door was locked! LOL

Sounds pretty cool Kubla, that masonic lodge is a huge building. There must be some weird crap built into the basement of that one. But I don't know the secret handshake? Do I tickle the palm with my middle finger or do I squeeze so hard the old man lets me in!?

Mr. A. Lien, That's a great story. I just love pussy ghosts!
