Posted by J Peterman are secret tunnels. In my consideration. I also consider walkable drains tunnels. Anyone disagree?
|
Nope. Especially if we're referring to the Michelle Remembers schtik. Her 'tunnels' may well have been the very old storm drains veining through the city. I'm just thinking that, from a child's prespective, a storm drain could easily be seen as a tunnel. And doesn't she (rather, her book) make some reference to a tunnel near/on Wark St.? Near that park? The abducted child thing? And isn't there a major drain in that immediate area? Something like that. Anyway, like I said...we are now closer to our 'tunnel' reality than we have been in the past.

Could this possibly be the thing that Nobody was talking about. It outflows along Dallas Road (as many drains do) and is walkable at low tide. While exploring this one with Tanuki, the waves crashing against the outflow sounded like a loud thunder. We crept towards the outflow even though there was some evidence of small waves coming in. It was pretty gnarly, as I approached the outflow to snap a final picture of the two 1 meter tubes (to soften the effect of the waves) were penetrated by a large wave which blasted the sea into the tunnel, filling it up as we high-tailed it outta there. GreatStuff.
I will post the picture of the interior of the outflow just before the swell came in as soon as I get it lightened in photoshop.

Here is the double outflow thingy. I'm not sure but I think picture is the beginning of the swell. It started out by a *sucking down* of the waterlevel as it depleted, then a BOOOOOM! <insert me screaming> followed by a WHOOSHH complete with spray and everything. Then the high-tailing. *Thanks to surekill for the brightening*

Hey Peterman, what's the diameter of that drain? The outflow looks larger but what about the main drain. How far did you go in the other direction away from the outflow?

The "WHOOSHH" was caused by a satanic 'drain clearing' ritual. ;)

The celing of that tunnle looks just like what i saw in the back of that tattoo shop under Johnson St. Probibly a common thing though. Hmmm...

COol stuff Peterman! Thanks, I agree that a child will think a drain is a tunnel, heck, id even think that and im an "adult". But the other things to consider are, if someone is talking about a tunnel, they also can mean a drain, a drain is a still a tunnel. A tunnel used to drain water. If you dont nit pick it and make experts in drains name this, to the majority of the world, a big underground drain is no different then a tunnel. They are essentially the exact same things but with different uses.
And, Yes, they are secret, because 1) the city doesnt admit them 2) many are sealed up/hidden 3) not many know about them 4) lots of them are not used by any officials 5) we have rumors and witness accounts of real secret rooms, smuggling, drug trade, underground apartments etc. If those are secret, it means ther are atleast one geniunly secret underground room connected by an underground tunnel or drain or passage. Now how come its so hard for everyone to get that? This is the most secretive you can be, especially with a load of myths/legends/occult rumors on top of all that. Get with the program people, this is enough proof of atleast one secret tunnel/area in victoria.
These are tunnels we know of, how many do you think we havent found? how many old ancient ones have we no clue of? Ther must be atleast one and then if its unknown it is secret and forgotton. Lets put it this way, if the sealed up entrances used to be access points to other tunnels, known or unknown in the past, wouldnt that mean they are now secret since ther burried and hidden? Yes it does..

Tanuki and I entered fairly close to the outflow, Tanuki is pretty sure that it gets smaller in diameter the further you go away from the water. Its similar in size to this one we recently checked out just West of Mayfair Mall: The first 3 are of the main tunnel. In the 4th picture it shows the walkable (crawlable) connection to the cylindrical tunnel running parallel to the first one. 5 and 6 are pictures of the cylindrical drain itself. This drain design may have been popular. As it looks similar to the other one that outflows at Dallas Road.

Some weird beast could live in these tunnels and never be found. Seriously! How would anybody know? If it heard people in the tunnel it could just run away. maybe it only needs to eat once a month or so, whenever some lone explorer is down in the tunnel. Imagine turning around in the dark and some crazy mutant gelatenous cube pounces on you!

J Peterman & Tanuki- From what I've seen and read, you guys have explored some pretty cool drains in Victoria. Old brick tunnels, with cool arches and decay, with nifty features- please, keep 'em coming! I would suggest you guys start your own 'Victoria Drains' thread, so those of us interested in Vic's amazing sewers don't have to sort through the rest of the 'tunnel rumours, banter and mavrix' crap in this thread. Again- very nice! Makes me wanna pack up and head to Vic for a week.

Good idea, but I enjoy adding to this thread as it is relevant in debunking one way or another the myth(s) about Victoria tunnels.

Ask mavrix about that stuff, I'm sure he's an expert in field and knows allllll about it. Haha.

I have lived in Victoria all my life and can remember rumors of just about everything (excluding the aliens and submarines) you guys have spoken about. My husband says that when he was younger he was invited to some sort of Dungeons and Dragons group that used to access the tunnels open near what was Merlins Night club. He swears to this - which of course I asked where the proof was. I have been avidly asking around and have had two pieces of feed back concerning the Empress Hotel. A man that my mom knows apparently has keys. Wish I knew him! He recently went down past levels he should have out of mobid curiousity. He claims to have almost got lost and went too far (scaring the hell out of him). He says he saw store front windows and all sorts of stuff. Then a friend of a friend said that she works there and she has been down there years ago and seen similar stuff. I have begged to get access. Access denied! She says it would be too hard to get down there now. I asked if there was anyway to get photos. Any ideas?

This is pretty much exactly what I've been told by many, many people. Some of them live in the various shelters throughout the city...the people so casually dismissed by some (on this thread) as either crazy, drug addicted, and most certainly dangerous. I assume that you/your sources are neither crazy, drug addicted or dangerous. Thank you very much for your contribution to what is clearly (from the number of replies) a compelling adventure story to many, many people.
I have begged to get access. Access denied!

There's NO SUCH THING as 'access denied.'
She says it would be too hard to get down there now. I asked if there was anyway to get photos. Any ideas?

If there's a way in, someone will find it and get inside. Trust me...

I may not know a way in. But I know a way under. You'll see. Soon.

Old stores under the Empress? I'm highly doubtful of that, mainly because the Empress is built upon reclaimed land. Now, if your sources had followed tunnels leading out from the Empress past the hotel's property to other streets with stores, I can understand that. Otherwise cool stories, maybe if you keep asking they might eventually let you go down, that or just go there, say your meeting one of the aforementioned people and try to explore on your own (take lots of pics!).

Yup, Empress is built on fill (which is why it is sinking). So the likelihood of there being stores underneath it is very slim. However, when they put the fill in, they may have put in a submarine navy base. Merlins nightclub was the name of Boom Boom Room, 15 years ago?
