Thanks everyone!
Trip #3 happened last weekend...although it got cut short because my boyfriend and I stumbled upon this:

A kitten!
The heat index was 108 degrees and he was all alone in the park, panting, near a bunch of dry leaves and sticks that were SMOLDERING/smoking from the sun catching them on fire.

(photo also by will)

He came right up to us and jumped in our laps and rubbed up against us and gave us kisses. It was obvious that someone had dumped him nearby. He’s only 4 months old and judging by his scars, had been in some tiffs with other animals (I’m sure there are rats bigger than him at Six Flags).
We definitely couldn't leave him there.
We left the park soon after that and brought him straight to the Emergency Animal Clinic to get him checked out. They did some blood work and other tests, which all came back fine. He was malnourished and dehydrated, so they gave him some fluids and he visibly seemed to feel better after that.
He's now living in my house and he'll soon be introduced to my other 3 cats (I know, I know. 4 cats. Crazy cat lady, etc.).
Will and I decided that the only appropriate name for him would be Mr. Six :]

ANYWAY, I DID manage to get some shots before we had to leave so here they are!

Only rubber, thank goodness.

Mr. Six! (Creepy old man version, not kitten version.)

Porcelain Mardi Gras doll

August 2005 of course.

Excuse the protruding shadow...it was a piece of equipment I couldn't move out of the way. I just thought it was amazing that none of the info on the dry erase board got washed away, considering this whole area was underwater.
Also, "Mission Statement: To deliver family fun and create fond memories for all our guest."

Bones (I'm assuming/hoping) from the Haunted House that somehow made their way to the warehouse.

Some type of dried up, detached animal foot. I'm assuming a bird? Don't know where the rest of him/her/it was though.

Revisited the haunted house (AKA Jocco's Mardi Gras Madness) just for you guys.

The point of the ride was to shoot as many targets as you could while riding through the haunted house. Your score appeared on the counter.

Ask and you shall receive! The gutted inside of the haunted house. I realize that this picture sucks but I was about to get attacked by some not-so-happy wasps so I was pretty rushed. Not much in there except a spare car and the track.

I remember going on this ride so many times and having my stomach all clenched up with fear and anticipation as my car drove my friends and I through this mouth. It was the last thing you saw before the daylight disappeared and skeletons draped in Mardi Gras beads started popping out at you left and right. It was also always a race to see who could hit the 2 targets first (above the nose...outlined in yellow and black) before we ascended into the darkness.

ANYWAY, those were the only shots I got (well, there's one or two more you can view on my flickr here if you want to: http://www.flickr..../xshamethestrongx/) before we found Mr. Six, who is now resting comfortably on a pillow on my bed and will be loved and cared for for the rest of his kitty life :]

We had a six flags up here in ohio close a few years back too. They were the @holes that bought out sea world, and geauga lake, and sent both parks downhill from there. Both parks are now empty except a small water park at one I think.

I hope they are able to do something with that park before the large rides go into complete disrepair. Although I'm sure there are higher priories after Katrina.

The park sat underwater for a month after Katrina, unfortunately. Every single ride (save the Batman ride that got removed) is destroyed beyond repair due to salt water immersion.

I thought the snow cone stand read "Mega Zeph's No-Balls."

Every single one of these shots is mint. This is one place that I definitely plan on saving up to go visit. I'm a sucker for abandoned amusement parks and this one has got to be one of the best that I've seen shots of.

Now they just need to abandoned Six Flags New England...

Thanks again everyone.

Okay, so we went back to finally finish the park and see the stuff we hadn't seen yet...once again when the heat index was 107 degrees. Pretty sure we both had heat stroke after we left and it probably wasn't the smartest decision but whatever...we finished the park. Needless to say, we probably won't be back for a long time (or at least until it's much, much cooler). At least now when I play that drinking game "Never Have I Ever" and someone says "Never Have I Ever Walked Around an Abandoned Theme Park with No Shirt On Thinking I Was Going to Pass Out and Die" I get to take a drink! I also brought some food and water with me just in case I happened to run across any of Mr. Six's potential brothers and sisters but no kitties this time around.

Anyway, here's a few of the shots from the last visit.

That zip line coming from the top goes over to the Gotham City "buildings"and the person playing Batman would ride it over to the cutouts during shows.

Film reel for the Cajun Pirate interactive theater ride. It got replaced with Spongebob: The Ride when Six Flags took over Jazzland.

This guy scared the absolute shit out of me. He sits in one of the ticket booths for the theater and I couldn't really see him clearly through the now-shattered glass so I peered in through the hole and saw this.

This used to be my favorite ride...the Cypress Falls Log Ride

Ever wonder what pickles that have been submerged in Katrina water and sat in the scolding heat for 5 years look like? Now you know.

Mr. Six managed to look even scarier this time around.

And I'm happy to report that Mr. Six is doing fine and is getting along, well I won't say WELL, with my other cats...but they're getting there! At least they're not attacking each other, haha.

Excellent work! There's just something about an abandoned amusement park... the desolation is so much more poignant when you consider its history. And your photography was very good indeed.

I wanted to add a special note to thank and congratulate you on rescuing "Mr. Six". He's a very lucky little guy!

My fiancé and I are honeymooning in NOLA and are planning on doing some Ueing while down there. This will be my second time there after living there. I lived down there after katrina and helped clean up. This is her first time. But we are both excited, maybe we can meet up with some folks there, so we are not alone. Safety in numbers right?

Its crazy to see something so modern so abandoned! Beautiful set though the pic with the water line really shows how bad it was.

I visited pre-dawn with belleZ on Thursday morning.

The best bit was that a police car was parked near the end of the access road on which we'd parked, and followed us for a few streets before pulling us over, and asking where we'd been. We were sweaty, scraped and bloodied from fun times, but dumbly claimed to be lost tourists looking for a route to downtown, despite his questions about Six Flags. The cop asked for our ID, but while he went off to run it, he was called off to something more urgent. He threw our ID back, and, laughing, said "you're lucky"

We counted our blessings and drove to Texas.

So far, we have not run into and police at Six Flags. We are planning another trip in November and hope there are things left to see again. Our first trip last year felt a little hurried and we missed a few places.

Great photos and even greater cat rescue!

WOW!!! Those are completely amazing pics! I guess this is the closest I'll get to being there. To think I wanted to go there for our anniversary but Katrina happened before that date came around. Major bummer! Makes me think about our beloved Astroworld. I hate that they took that away from us.... Anyway, enjoyed your awesome pics and I salute you for saving Mr. Six. I'm considered a cat lady myself, lol

[....]He threw our ID back, and, laughing, said "you're lucky" [.....]]

wow i find that sorta awesome.

when we went we also had to park on that access road. i kept thinking some cop would drive down it patrolling, or maybe we would get back and find the tires stolen.

more reason to have a motorcycle for locations like that.

the location was so fun.

if you guys get a chance to go,check out the projector rooms from the spongebob ride. there was an interesting office with lots of old stuff, and there was a book titled something like "running successful amusement parks". which made me laugh..
