'Useless National'

Last few days I've been grazing with horses and ponies - many hours per day. It is pure pleasure just be there when sun shines, weather is warm and especially because those beautiful animals let you be there as one of them, it doesn't even mind if you doesn't get any recent photos (it doesn't feel bad at all to be unemployed at days like these).

Anyway, that abandoned village shop that I did spot from internet week or two ago has been on my mind. Because very poor money situation I did decide that I won't go to check that untill I get my next unemployment benefits about after 2 weeks.

Yesterday my nervous did break and I did go (and thanks to my girl after listening few hours my continuous moan telling me that we dont go bankruptcy because one trip - that was just what I did need).

About 40 kilometers to one direction, and it didn't start best way; after few kilometers there were really hard thunderstorm, and of course heading just there were I were going too. I were that much quicker that I were able to take few outside shots before rain...

Place was nice, quite big, old village shop. Very odd, because even almost every window were unbroken! Have to get back there later on this summer, I believe that there still are lot of photos hidden...

But now, without long speech (joke), here we go!

Road to nowhere (hdr):

24/7 forever (hdr):

Endless waiting (hdr):

Downways (hdr):

To the light (hdr):

House and garden I (hdr):

House and garden II (hdr):

Afternoon light (hdr):

Flowers to the past (hdr):

At the attic (hdr):

Unread truth (hdr):

Not to the end (hdr):

Unseen paths (surprise! Just one ordinary photo!):

Silent one (hdr):

Useless National (hdr):

Gigantic (hdr):

And one traditional off-topic bonus (like there wouldn't be enough already): What more could you need?

I am constantly refreshed by your light touch with HDR. You've become a master, in my humble opinion, of using the technique in an understated, yet effective way. No cartoon-like coloring, no halos. Perfect. Well done (as usual).

Oh, and props to your girl for getting your ass out taking pictures where you clearly belong.

I agree with the others, your work is always stellar. The horses look peaceful
Don't get to see them often where I'm from. Now get up off your ass, and enjoy this time off between jobs, You'll be working for the next 25 years or so...

I am not sure about that - I've been working since ummm... 1997? And situation has go worst and worst... Situation here is so damned bad, and I just wonder if it even gonna get better because now at last 10 years they have shut down so much companies here that... We'll see. But my opinion is that healthy mind doesn't need work, so I really enjoy my life right now (except those endless money problems).

And thanks for all that have commented so far, it always warms my mind. There is slight danger of overheating already, but I'll gonna cool down with beer - maybe just one pint today but tomorrow more. Thank you very much. I don't think that they are so good, but as far as even someone can get something from them, I will feel that I've done something right (or at least to right direction).

I always scan down the list of new posts here. When I see yours it is the first I open. I am never disappoited.

A mirage is not an optical illusion. It is a real phenomenon, and one can take photographs of it. The interpretation of the image, however, is up to the fantasy of the human mind.

Indeed there really aren't many threads that I actually take time with. You are one of the few posters that I do take my time with, making sure I really look at each photo. Photographers like you make me want to get out and take more pics. So keep going, so I get off MY ass and take some pics!

You and me will all go down in history, with a sad Statue of Liberty, and a generation that didn't agree.

Women just don't seem to understand... a roadtrip is to us as going shopping with the ladies or having dinner parties is to them. I'm happy to hear you prevailed.

Very nice photos, I like them all! Actually sometimes when I go out on roadtrips, your name comes up as we talk in the car. So if your ears are burning, know that we're saying good things about you - half a world away.

Here in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada we are a mining town. With the falling price of nickle, the two largest mines have let approximately 1000 people go. They are being paid until June and then they are on their own. Some of these guys are 40-50 years old and really don't know how to any other job, some are fathers, some have houses and boats and cottages to pay off. It's not a pretty situation to be in the mining sector.

Times are tough all over but from what I've been reading, the recession is slowly making a recovery. Keep your head up high.

What sort of work do you do if I may ask?

Yeah, I am REALLY lucky man, my fiance has never complain even my beer drinking, long hair, long beard and she is "one of us" what comes american cars, urban exploration or anything else that normal people sometimes think that ain't so clever...

Thank you very much, and I think that my ears are really getting red. I've never been good at anything, but these kind of comments... They give me some kind of feel that I've maybe learned to do something at least sligthly to right direction... These kind of comments keep up my will to try to improve.

But truly, I am really happy if my work inspires others too (even it would be something like 'what the hell, I can do better).

And my job... I did graduate at '95 or '96 (I can't remember sure - am I getting old?) to machinist (I am not sure about the word but you know those jobs with metal (which is good because metal is music that I like (without forgotting classic rock'n roll and psychobilly)) but that was mistake, I did hate it at the begin, and I am very bad with anything that should be done with my hands). So I have not done those jobs at all, I've been doing any kind 'shit jobs', you know those with small salary and who anyone doesn't appreciate but have to be done.

I've worked few years in abattoir lifting boxes beside conveyor belt 8000 kg's per day (not alone but anyway), I've done packing jobs, I've done fine mechanics assembly with cell phones for 7 years, moving jobs, assembly of fridges... That kind of stuff.

Here in Finland situation is quite odd. After war 'big generations' are slowly getting off from work, so there should be lot of work, but there ain't; it is quite opposite actually, there have ever been so much unemployment than today and they say it is getting worst. And we did have really bad situation back at 90's.

But as I've told, it have its good sides too; I have lot of time to spent to photographing (and healthy mind doesn't need work). Sad thing is that I have not enough money to do all those trips that I would want. And also my higher unemployment benefit gonna end after 400 days - then we sure gonna be in big problems. So far we can manage quite well (and so far I will enjoy this freedom).

(I did wrote here really long story about everything, anything and all things with 10 milligram of hope and 50 milligram of false hope - then my sanity did win (sanitation?) and I did decide to delete it - few pints ain't every time good for writing some ducking psychoanalysis to UE forum, I did save you from that so you are really lucky).

But I'll think here in next photo includes everything of that, and also answers to questions "how they did build the pyramids", "whats beyond the space" and "birth of Jesus":

That was one from today, little factory visit again (you maybe remember that part collapsed place from few weeks ago). Probably last visit to there, that roof looks really dangerous.

Cheers!
