Say hi to the Big Easy for me! I was there for 6 months in 2006 on business and again for a month in March 2007. I love that place. Miss it like crazy!

That's news to me. Where exactly are you talking about? Can you see it from Google Earth?

I believe he's referring to Brad Pitt's project in the Lower Ninth? He's planning on rebuilding a bunch of houses. I think they put up the tents ("mock houses" as I remember a Times-Picayune article calling them) during a fundraising event for the project a while back. I don't know if they're still there or not.
Here's a New York Times article on it, though they don't mention the tents: http://www.nytimes...design/03pitt.html

I'll probably be in town somewhere in the June-July range. There's a particular site I wouldn't mind talking with a local about.. drop me a PM if you don't mind.

What the hell are all those pink things?

EDIT: Nevermind, didn't see the explanation. No need to answer.

Judging from the bridge a few blocks away and the downtown skyline in the background, I'd say that's the spot where the levee broke on the Intracoastal canal. There wasn't much left in that area...the houses just floated away from the levee or disintegrated. I drove through that neighborhood about a year ago and it was just empty.

Yes, that would be the Lower Ninth Ward.

Looks like the lower ninth ward just north of the Claiborne Ave (or St Claude?) bridge. My father and i were on a road trip in December 2006 to Georgia to visit my bro who was on leave from Iraq. I was appalled to see it all first hand. We spent about 10 hours in the lower ninth just talking to people and taking tons of photos. The people really wanted to talk to us because nobody else would listen. I think we gave away like $200 and bought a couple of packs of cigs for people who just needed a smoke. We met the most down to earth people in NO, and i see why people just wont leave.

I met this guy Joe on the corner of McShane and Kerlerec, got to know him for a good 3 hours.

If you get a chance to visit NO, you gotta get out and walk the neighborhoods and lend an ear once in a while.

An armed society, is a polite society. So lets get to it!
