Several years ago, ruralexplorationkids did a post on the oddfellows orphanage in Corsicana and I have been intrigued by it ever since. I tried to stop a few times on my travels between DFW and Houston but either never had the time and the one time I did couldn't find it. Finally a week or so back I took the time to research it and stopped by. It is truly a beautiful place that appears to have been kept in really good condition. Unfortunately, at least for now, no possibilities of seeing inside as it is boarded tight, has security, is semi-Active with the college etc,,,
There was guy mowing so I asked if it was okay to take pictures and he asked I go few doors down to the lodge office. I spoke with the main guy there and some of the ladies who gave me a some great background on the place. After asking what was going to be done with it we got into a long talk on what work I did, Architectures and construction, and found out they are trying to see about building a new lodge and are hoping to partner with someone to build a hotel on some of the land. We talked about the possibility of working with the city to restore some of the buildings, using grant money and some help with the city etc... SO the good news, is they aren't planning on tearing them down anytime soon and I may get to work with them on some stuff.

On a side note, some of the history, the main buildings two wings are not original, the two original wings were town down and replaced with th what is there now, while this buildings looks good, the inside at one time was broken into for a while and got pretty trashed, plus the roof leaks and has caused alot of rot. This would unfortunately be the one to go if anything did he said, The able Rice Building was a multi purpose center, Gym/Auditorium and had a pool in the basement, this building is in good shape he said as is the other building which was the infirmary.

Hell yeah. I liked the entry on this place. Seems a bit different since the time the other shots were taken. Love those turrets on the main building.

Doesn't that infirmary look suspiciously like a railroad depot?

Thanks for the look!
