Maybe this is lame, but I feel I gotta say something. Tonight on PBS there was a special about the history of the Stock Yards and most of it was about Swift and Armour. It was sad toward the end because of the demise of it in the 60's and shutting its doors for good in '71 and how it impacted so many lives and supported so many others.

My point is, I was looking through various exploration photos of the place and it really pissed me off at how people/kids/gangs/whatever have driven the sanctity of that place into the ground with the graffiti and trash.
As an (amatuer)explorer, its the history of these places that is fascinating to me and draws curiosity. Nature, neglect and gravity will all do their own damage eventually, but hell does anyone else know what I am saying?

It's about the show yes, but what you're saying in this thread is different than the other one.

I know exactly how you feel. Armour & Swift was my first real exploration, and I guess I've always felt connected to it in some way. After I explored it, I looked up history, articles and old pictures of the place. I even went to the museum at the stockyards and saw cans and pictures and original stuff from the plant. It was a very sad way for things to end for A&S, and yes it makes me angry that so many people have defaced the place and more wasn't done to preserve it, but I guess most people don't see industrial and places that were used to pack meat as historical or something. *shrug* Seems like they mostly try to preserve houses or schools.

*edit to add: I saw on the news a few months back that after the filming of Prison Break, Armour & Swift will be demoed.

Enough can't be said about these old historic commercial structures. A&S is no exception. A recurrent thread with new input, new insight, is what it's all about (for me anyway). So Right-On jewtewned! A&S put Fort Worth on the map, affecting Texas history in a really big way. The proletariat and corporate stockholders could care less what happens to A&S. At the very least, I wish they'd kept the gatehouse intact. Once it's gone, they'll wish they had.

I was on prison break, but I never went out to the meat packing plant for the show. I know that they are going to demo it after they are done shooting the show. I think that sucks, but luckily I have been out there more times than I can count on both hands. Also, on a side note, some of the inside shots, and the "courtyard" at "sona" is in an abandoned teen detention center over off of a well known road down by parkland hospital. It is still VERY much in use by the show at the moment, so there is armed security there. But, the guy just sits in his car and sleeps. So, do with this info what you will.

Ahhh, I know this place. Dont watch prison break but I know of a small town up north that was used in the main street filming of one of the episodes. It actually just lost its post office so some would consider it a ghost town. All the old false front buildings are painted up to look like Panama (I think).
