So many place names in the city have to do with water... Keller Springs Road, Trinity Mills Boulevard, Marsh Lane. It implies that at some point, there was a life-giving spring on the Keller farm, and that there was once a mill on the Trinity River that was important enough to build a road to.

What happened to those springs, though? Well, they're generally nothing more than a nuisance when developing an area. They cause foundation problems and make basements flood (if anyone around here even knew how to build a basement). They're covered with pavement and redirected to the most convenient storm drain. The local spring, once the heart of the community, can no longer be seen -- it no longer exists.

Except this one. It's a stretch to call it an abandonment, but it's definitely something that was once essential and is now discarded.

The side of the hill was cut away to make room for a shopping center. But the local geology has conspired to turn the face into a spring. They built the parking lot right up to it.

This drain was only recently added. The spring used to flow into the parking lot -- in fact, smaller seepages still do pour a significant quantity of water right across it, even in all but the driest summers.

The spring, even now, is an oasis in an urban desert.

I especially like this picture of the big moss knob. I've got it set as my desktop background (let me know if you'd like a full-size copy).

Just across the parking lot is a good-sized detention pond with a big drain in and a big drain out. It's on my list of places to check out soon.

J'ai toujours fait une prière à Dieu, qui est fort courte.
La voici: "Mon Dieu, rendez nos ennemis bien ridicules!"
Dieu m'a exaucé.

Sand Springs in oklahoma was built around a spring too. But instead of building a parking lot over it they built a walkway over it where you can see the spring and they also threw in some river rocks on top of the spring to make it look nice. I'm not sure if the spring I'm thinking of is a real spring or just a replica because theres a PVC pipe running under the thing.

I dont have any pictures but if I remember to take some next time I drive by it I'll put them up.
