Wow I would so rip down that highway with my firebird!

there was an abandoned gas station very near where i grew up as well, unfortunately it was so choked with debris you couldn't get into the door.

parts of it are

this section is still being used as a road but not being maintained by the county

US Hwy 80 still exists in places but much of it has been abandoned re-routed or paved over by Interstate 20 and some parts are even fenced off on private land now

when I20 went through a lot of the businesses along US80 dried up and blew away

I love abandoned roadways. I've always been a roadgeek (since before the term was invented), so whenever the highway would take a gradual curve, I would find the weed-choked asphalt stub leading to the original route, which usually went straight ahead to a sharper turn. Sometimes it leads right back to the new road, but other times there are entire communities bypassed and abandoned.

And the crumbling road itself is adventure enough. Try SH 11 near Avant north of Tulsa. The old route kept washing out on the side of a "mountain" -- or what passes for a mountain on the NE Oklahoma plains. So the new road bypasses it to the north, starting with a loooooong and terribly boring grade just outside the town. Find the road through Avant and check it out. There may be some buildings along the way, ya never know.

J'ai toujours fait une prière à Dieu, qui est fort courte.
La voici: "Mon Dieu, rendez nos ennemis bien ridicules!"
Dieu m'a exaucé.

Well then I'll be sure to send him addresses and map coordinates to as many locations as possible.

If theres one the thing the world needs more of its more spray painting!

That reminds me of old HWY 87 in Texas, A little past crystal Beach (Galveston eria) the high way ends, a hurricane in 1989 damaged well over 100+ miles of road, most of it has become a wild life refuge. I have seen some cool photos of it from the air, there is alot of abandoned structures all along old 87. I hope to make it a camping trip this year (not a one day in and out trip)

Those some nice shots of a bad ass place 2X. You can almost see some bikers from the early fifties pulling in to fill up.

Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.

Nice shots! I actually drove on Hwy 80 just a couple of weeks ago. (the part that is still in use) Thanks for the pics. I'm sure it's been asked before, but what kind of camera are you shooting with?
