continued media interest

Hi folks. I see about 45 of you read my post inquiring about urban exploration in Oklahoma, but I haven't gotten any responses, so I'm reposting it again below. I think this would be a cool story to do. Hope you can help me out.

Ken

----------

My name is Ken Raymond, and I am a senior reporter for The Oklahoman, the state's largest newspaper, based in Oklahoma City.

I want to do a package of stories on urban exploration and am seeking active Oklahoma explorers to interview and photograph. I would also be interested in accompanying you on an exploration within 100 miles of Oklahoma City.

I understand there are privacy concerns and would be happy to discuss them and work them out with you in advance. We may be able to accomodate you.

I think this could be a fascinating package.

Please feel free to contact me via e-mail at [email protected] or by telephone at 405-475-3331.

Thank you.

Ken

Hi Ken, I'm particularly interested in your package. You're right privacy is important to us and I'd like to see said package in private. I'm sure I can accommodate it though, I've dealt with the media in the past and they've loosened me up that's for sure!

I've enclosed a pre-adressed envelope for your convenience, please enclose an airline ticket to NYC under the name Senor Miguel Dominguez 3rd and US$1000. I shall meet you at the Northern entrance to the Amtrak (Mole/Freedom) tunnel and together we shall frolic with the hobos and dance around the stagnant pools of sewerage! I will be wearing green goggles.

I'm game if you are baby! REOOOOOOOOW

LOL

On a more serious note, I can't think of anyone off the top of my head on these message boards who is from that area. I know there has to be but I guess if they were interested they would have responded. Good luck!

I see a total of 9 members willing to admit theyre from Oklahoma

And one that claims she explores Oklahoma

Could be others we dont know. Apparently there is a Ken Raymond on the city desk at the Oklahoman "police reporter" Ken Raymond was almost arrested once himself.

http://64.233.167....ct=clnk&cd=9&gl=us

How bout this?

Todays Top Story:

Ponca City. In a daring daylight raid Oklahoma authorities arrested 2 members of a super secret society of creepy crawlers known as Urban Explorers today. Local district attorney Cletus Hogbuckle told News9 reporters: We've been on their trail for months now, thanks to anonymous tipsters Buffy and Sissy Dewgoode, local police, sheriffs deputies and federal authorities seized a digital camera from the ring leader, a 19 year old college student thought to be the ring leader. The camera contained several images of an abandoned grain elevator and a 1968 Dodge flatbed truck that may have belonged to a former employee of that same grain elevator.

The Department of Homeland Security has been called in and is investigating this case to see if there are any ties to known Al Queada operatives.

Nothing personal against Mr Raymond or any other media types, just dont think its a good idea to publish this stuff for soccer moms and young aspiring district attorneys needing a career or any other readers that dont understand and can bring unwanted attention to the harmless activities of real explorers.

There are however some non-Oklahoma members here (use the search feature you can find them) that will talk to the media, and they wish to promote this activity in a positive light etc etc, Kowalski for one, Armed Geoduck is another there have been several threads about the media but dont hold your breath waiting for a localahoman though...

I have never heard of Ponca City, Ok until last night--it was part of a question about a cow-chip festival in Oklahoma, no lies. The other two options were Norman and Beaver. The answer was Beaver, but isn't it always?

You betcha

...unless you're placing a classified ad or asking why your paper wasn't delivered this morning.

I'm a blatant waste of time and resources.

Well, whichever one of you Googled me is right: I was threatened with arrest in Webbers Falls after the I-40 bridge collapse. I'm not a police reporter anymore, though. Did that for five years. Now I'm kind of a projects writer, free to pursue longer pieces and write them in a narrative style.

I appreciate your responses. I don't want to get anyone in trouble; I just want to tell an interesting story. Ideally what I'd do is get permission from the property owners for a small group of Oklahoma explorers to check out a local venue. I'd go along, as would a photographer.

For those needing further confirmation that I am who I say I am, please feel free to call the Oklahoma Publishing Company's switchboard at 405-475-3311. Do a Google search for "Ken Raymond" and Oklahoman. Or check out this, my latest story (this link may not work unless you register; it's free): http://www.newsok.com/article/3018232/

Unfortunately, I am almost exclusively interested in Oklahoma explorers. If you know anyone here who might talk to me, please pass on my information.

Thanks again.

Ken

You should go to Hominy (Osage County, near Tulsa). The old "colored school" has fallen into disrepair, but the neighborhood residents are trying to keep it from falling apart entirely. My daughter and I explored it with the unofficial caretaker -- I've lost his name, but you should be able to ask anyone living nearby. He'll also tell you about the church on the next block -- roof caved in atop the pews.

It's got the potential for a great human-interest story, especially the part about how the city isn't all that interested in preserving a part of the city's history that some folks would rather forget.

Send me a PM if you'd like me to dig around and see if I can find the gentleman's contact info.

I'm in Norman. Norman is (more or less) a suburb of OKC.
