I was referring to the PM, and contribution messages that flash on the top of the main UER window. A small box that changes colors (say blue to red), but does not flash on the side bar would be nice. Anything that flashes on the screen (or worse, the main window) that can't be blocked, or turn-off, I consider a pop-up.
|
Currently, the only thing that even comes close to "flashing" is the Messages button on the far left, which pulses steadily when there is a message waiting. The blue "Unread Message" or "Please Donate" banners do not flash, nor have they ever flashed. They simply appear at the top. They are about as far as you can get from a pop-up; I suppose the closest word that could possibly describe them would be "banner", but that is usually reserved for advertisements. -av

Yeah, I my choice of wording was poor, and inaccurate. It's the fact that the "Unread Message" or "Please Donate" messages appear in the main viewing window that tends to distract me. "Pop-up style message banner" I guess would be more to the point.
Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in. |

| | | This is exactly their purpose. They are supposed to be in-your-face and distracting. If the "New message" banner was nondescript and hidden off to the side, people would easily miss the fact that they have new messages. The banner only stays as long as a new message exists. -av

I've always liked the set design, but was bothered by the button layout as a few have stated. Maybe "user search" and "members" can be incorporated into search. Profile could be under "your stuff" with Mysites. Maybe the about button can be linked to the UER logo, which seems the most intuitive. Donate could be a pop up window when you log-in. I would recommend this order, with the rest of the buttons left over collapsing into the most intuitive place so no scanning and thinking is required, keeping clicking to a minimum

| | | Forgot to add, have a flickr widget and a "random or newest image" widget, so showcase the photos which are being viewed the most, etc.

I disagree. I have yet to see any site where clicking on the logo does anything but take you back to the main page. Currently, the logo links you to UER's main page, which I think would be the most intuitive for 90% of the web population -- those who grew up around computers and the Internet anyway. Well it could boot you back to the front page. All the sites I have created do the same, but if your already familiar with the site why have an about button anyways? Maybe it should only be displayed for new users-- and have something down at the bottom where it says contact "webmaster". Its a button I never clicked on, so I'm not sure if others are regular using it.

| | | Why change it? I think its perfect from what I have seen in here. Kudos to the guy/gal in charge. If its not broken why fix it?
Other then the spell check, it dont work so good. My horrible typing skills confuse it.
I only tell people what I think of them to their faces. Takes more guts to do that. The internet seems to make people feel much tougher or bigger then they are in a normal one on one live situation. |

| | | I like the current colour scheme too; it kind of reminds me of concrete and blue skys. I like Wabbit’s design the best, with ghostkilla’s a close second.

| | | I really like Wabbit's design. I think with a little graphical update to all of the icons to match his classy, simplistic style, it'd be perfect. Any timeline on when such an update would take place, or are we gonna keep the date a mystery and have everyone "ouu" and "ahh" the morning they sign in?

| | | I thought the Halloween page was nice. What about including a good sat image of NA, and display ONLINE users locations with little buttony things that can activate a chat session. What about linking a Google Earth map with specific users DB pics, or some shit like that.
