i've had trains sneak up on me on the Bridgeline that runs through Port Henry... in the cliffs you can't hear them coming and them POW! there they are bearing down on you at 50+mph!!!

why is it all the good ones get iced and the assholes live forever?

Samurai

Samuri, spooky ain't it? That fucking buck playing choo-choo train with me the other day was shits too. People seem to think they can move fast, and that they are always in control. After reading that article about Dev that Skelly posted (the first one I read was missing the part about time, tripod/camera, and the how Dev was found details) I was left feeling unsettled. It could easily have been myself, or anyone who walks train tracks; it's too easy to do.

I wonder if he was setting up for a shot on the tracks and fell asleep, tagged by a stray bolt of lightning, miscalculated, was lost in thought, tripped; so many ways to fuck up, and things to go wrong! I had an automated track switch close 15 feet from were I was shooting on the tracks the other day, made me jump. Yeah I know to stay clear of them, but around trains and tracks there are so many things like that just waiting for that one time you forget. Couldn't help but think about what had happen to Dev.

I still have a small "dent" in my left lower rib cage from 25 years ago when I tipped on the first rail and fell square across the second rail while running across them at lunch break. I was able to get my hand out to help break the fall, but that positioned me to take the impact square on my side, right on the ribs. I'm lucky no train was coming and that I was able to scrape myself up after 20-60? seconds. I was going into shock, having trouble breathing and wasn't even sure I could walk another 100 feet after I managed to get up. I was, but too close. It only takes the smallest misstep, slip, or chance of fate...Poor Dev.

ya sorry about the confusion by posting on his name. i didnt realize it until the last post. ill get my own name soon enough.

and yes, he sure loved his 40s. he drank one here last night while i was at work before he headed home. and on his way he decided to take a picture of some trains. last week a friend of ours jumped in front of a train on the same tracks, almost same exact spot. not sure if this is why he was taking a pic or not. he will surely be missed.

White Trash I think this is the post that you where referring to. How said that he may have been doing a tribute to his friend at the time.

A mirage is not an optical illusion. It is a real phenomenon, and one can take photographs of it. The interpretation of the image, however, is up to the fantasy of the human mind.

I never explored with Seth but I did have some amazing late night talks with him. I was going through a really rough time in my life and he really helped me alot. He was so open and easy to talk to. We talked about craft beer and women and of course exploring for hours and hours. He seemed like an amazing guy. I wish I had met him in person or taken him up on his offer to come out to gary sooner. Goddamn trains ...I got hit by one of those motherfuckers too, fortunately I was in a car.

Another article: http://nwitimes.co...2571f600061d45.txt

As previously stated, this took place on a single track on a straight-away. The location is also in a residential area with nearby road crossings. I am still very confused by all of this, it just doesn't make sense.

It's always sad whenever we lose one of our own, and especially painful when the person was a friend. I never met Seth, and only talked to him once via e-mail, but he was a very friendly guy, and an explorer that has earned my respect.

But i also wanted to note that in this hobby we enjoy so much, there's a certain risk we all take whenever we enter an abandoned building, bunker, drain, or whatever. That's one fact we all have to accept.

I never had the privilege of meeting Dev, but we had talked on here a few times. He seemed really cool. The man was like an encyclopedia of Gary...I don't think there was anything that he didn't know about that place. I thought it would have been awesome to explore Gary with him, but I never got the chance to go back up there.

My deepest sympathy to his family.

I wish that I had been able to meet this explorer who is so revered by his friends. I wish even more so that this hadn't happened. He sounds like a truly wonderful individual. Rest in peace Seth.

My condolences go out to the friends, family and loved ones. You're in my prayers, friend.
